Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony's retail games are on fire!

The more interesting question is: Who does make money on PS4?

EA, Activision, Take 2, Ubisoft, probably all of them more than Sony.

the game division for sony has been profitable since release. PS4 is printing making sony wads of cash.

also, when fifa, cod and destiny all sell 4 million each at retail, sony makes money from each copy sold.

Sony gets a cut from each sale of those publishers games. Plus the games those publishers release causes consumers to buy a PS4, which in turn makes Sony even more money for their gaming division.

How much is Sony's fee per sold copy of a 3rd party game?

Is the system itself being sold at a profit?

Well the system is profitable according to Kaz http://www.polygon.com/2014/5/23/5744344/ps4-already-profitable-for-sony-ceo-says
And I´m not sure but I heard, that the "fee" for a game on a platform such as PS/Xbox ranges from 10 to 20 Bucks for a 60$ retail game. However I have no idea if that is true so take it with a grain of salt

Yup...RO friggin rocked

Well, this is only retail? Because I'm pretty sure they are also rocking on the digital front too.
8th gen consoles are selling a lot digitally too.

Very impressive anyway :)

Not quite impressed, they're buying Playstation Store cards, we don't know which game they purchased mostly.

not realy impressiv, they sold 16m ps4s. all those people need games...

1/4 of the ps4 owners own cod, fifa, and destiny

thats not impressive

especially when your competition hasnt gotten a 3 million seller yet :P

They also have less $60 retail games to choose between.  Competition has also sold less systems, while having more $60 games to choice between. So them not hitting 3 million is more likely and if they do with the number of units sold, it would be a massive acheivement at it's current state.

ah, here comes the xbox fans to downplay ps4's unheard of success in a sony discussion

You know how it goes.  It's like Rock, Paper, Scissors.  If we talk about the Wii's success, somebody will talk about how its games sucked or that it was a fad.  Wii U?  Poor sales.  If we talk about how well Sony does, somebody will talk about the Vita or the (perceived) lack of good games.  If we talk about how well Xbox does, somebody will talk about how they didn't support the original Xbox or how the Xbox 360 didn't have an original game since 2008.  Nobody is immune.

how about a new ip like watch dogs selling 3.5 million and on it's way to 5 million? what about a new ip like destiny selling 4 million? what about gta, far cry, fifa, dragon age, the evil within, shadow of mordor, and nba doubling or even in some cases tripling or quadrupling the xbox one's sales when the ps4 isn't doubling or tripling the xbox one's total world wide hardware sales, according to vgchartz of course. is any of that impressive to you?

ps4 is a beast

Impressive, indeed.
