He doesn't have a steady stream of income. Not that $2.5B is anything to scoff at, but if he wants something, he's gonna gun for it, now, because his money can "run out", so he's gonna get what he can, while he can. Jay-Z and Beyoncé will be raking in a half billion, each, a year off CDs, tours, merch, and NBA stuff (in Jay-Z's case) etc. for years to come. They could have easily bought this house if they wanted but they just gave up. And they could easily buy a more expensive house and their bank account will be, essentially, unaffected.

Notch's bank account dropped $70M and it's not going back up. Just saying all this for people thinking that Notch's "Minecraft money" has made him "more powerful" than Jay-Zand Beyoncé because he was able to outbid them on something. It'd be different if he was getting residual income and royalties off the IP, but that's all Microsoft's now.

Actually buying a house is a nice investment. The money doesn't just disappear because he can sell it for the same price/higher price down the line

Yea, there's equity (which I actually didn't think about =/), but I'm just saying, I saw a few comments like "look at what Minecraft money can get you!" implying that it makes Notch have more wealth than Jay-Z and Beyonce, to be able to spend more money than them. I'd hedge my bet to say he'd outbid anyone on something he wanted because, for him, it's not as simple as "I can just buy this later". His money may not last til "later" ($2.5B is a lot, but I've seen people, who don't know how to manage money, lose over $100M in just a few years, so it's not out of the question that he could burn through money quickly...he did just buy a $70M house), so he gets it now while he can. It's like give a man a fish vs teach a man to fish. Jay-Z and Beyonce's money will be for a lifetime. Notch's money is "right now", so he's gonna live it up and do what he can with it at the moment.

Probably just me but I find it unusual when a house has more bathrooms than bedrooms.

No, it's not just you.

For me, spending that much money on a house is a waste of money. Heck, I could spend a lot less than half that money and build a house from the grounds that suits my needs.

The price for a house has a lot to do with the location. You wouldn't be able to build that house in BH

I don't need it to be in BH .

But you'll miss the earthquakes!

Regarding bathrooms and bedrooms, my theory is that a few extra bedrooms for guests is enough, but the number of bathrooms have to increase with the size of the house to have always one near just in case.

I hope he knows Minecraft was one in a life time success.
Don't go spending money like there's no tomorrow. Billion is a huge amount, but not infinite.

I'm sure he is smart and saves most of that money. $70 is nothing compared to what he owns

Actually his money is more then 2,5 Billions , he still have the money on Minecraft software sales before it was sold to Microsoft.

15 bathrooms!!! That's so fucking awesome! He can go take a dump on a different bathroom each day of the week!!

That's what I call living the dream.

Well, while he doesn't have a steady income like Jay-Z and Beyonce,  maybe he does actually richer then both of them. He also might have invest the rest of the money some where else. He is a smart person, look what he did with the  simple pollygon game which can create 2,5 billion money Lol , i bet he  already think the best indie games for the future.

$70m is a tiny fraction of his money and it's not like it'll go anywhere, as I said. He is smart so I'm sure he can find good ways to invest or store his money. Notch is no cokehead lol
