Bodhesatva: will the console ports of Crysis be any good? Just wondering have you played Crysis on its highest possible settings on PC? I have heard its out of this world, unbelievable.

Highest possible? No. My computer can handle high, but not very high, and I do own it. By next year, I can play it in very high, if I so choose.

It's a good but not great game, in my opinion. Please keep in mind, I'm not really the person to ask. I don't care about graphics at all. The games I've played the most in the last 6 months are Yahoo Chess, Yahoo Go, Starcraft, WoW, and Wii Sports, even though I own Crysis, Bioshock, and several other graphical showpieces.

I see there are other people than me that still play quality games like Starcraft.

Think twice before helping a friend in need.

I'm too lazy... sorry man :(

Anyway I don't have much too report, this years's GDC was pretty good (developer wise) but lacked any real news.

Optimistic predictions for 2008 (Feb 5 2008): Wii = 20M, PS3 = 14M, X360 = 9.5M

http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/04/rumor-crysis-shown-on-xbox-360-to-prospective-publishers-at-g/ Conflicting rumor.

I wouldn't trust it. From the comments:

"DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT BELIEVE PRIMOTECH. They will say anything to gain your trust and then you'll end up waking up on the floor somewhere with a pain in your neck and two days of memory lost.

happened to me once"

I'm a PS3 owner as you all know and would love to just say this isn't true, but it is at least partially true. The CryEngine2 was definetely running on the 360 at GDC (inside the closed CryTek booth). And CryTek demoed it to some people. From what I can say, it is running pretty good.

Unfortunately, it's not running on the PS3 :(. It's coming along slowly and still not in a state where it can be demoed.

So, I find it really hard to believe any version of Crisis will come out on the PS3 before the 360. Most likely they will both be released at the same time some time next year.

I read about that earlier in the week. So maybe the rumor was started to feel out demand for the game on PS3.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

I am not sure Microsoft paid a lot of money for bioshock 2.
The first one did win awards and has been praised but the sales were far less than spectacular.
In any case, even if they did pay to have it as a 360 exclusive, they did it to keep the integrity of the series and not because it will sell 4 million copies. Kudos to microsoft...

It'll be fun to see what Crytek will pull out of the hat to make use of the terribly low RAM (and relatively slow RAM is 360's case) and how they'll avoid bottlenecks in the hardware.
I have a better videocard than both 360 and PS3 GPU's are based on (read "based", they're highly modified, but even still) and 2 GB's of decently quick (933 MHz) RAM and I had serious issues running Crysis on anything above medium.
Another point where it'll unravel on consoles is the control scheme, its not horribly well thought out even in the PC version (I found Far Cry and CoD series controls better).

Lastly; kinda wonder why Crytek's Yeril was being such an ass about the PS3 if he's making a game for it that he obviously wants to sell?... Good move Yeril, good move...

The word naivety springs to mind in these threads. Have no delusions despite what Sony says they pay for exclusives just like Microsoft pays for exclusives. There are technical reasons to develop console specific games, and that does happen often enough. However I think its almost ignorant to call Microsoft on it when you have to know that Sony has fronted exclusivity for a number of their biggest titles. This is purely a situation of the pot calling the kettle black.

The only player that seems to not be playing the exclusives market is Nintendo, and frankly that is somewhat troubling. There is no reason with their fast cash flow not to spend a million here or there to secure a high end third party title. I do not blame companies for buying exclusive titles to differentiate their platform. That is smart business sense, and it gets extremely high quality games to the market. Some of these high end exclusives cost so much that they will never be profitable, but they are being made to highlight a platform. Third party developers could never afford to do that.

Basically its assanine to play the role of a cynic about such practices when you will reap the rewards. While it is obvious to you that your not getting a game you want only, because some money changed hands. Well its equally obvious that the same practice is securing exclusive games for your platform, and gasp is actually funding high end development of titles. Your not a victim of the system, and without the system you would get more less polished games not less.

Stupid is as stupid does I suppose, but its getting tiring reading the same tripe in these threads. Microsoft and Sony are both guilty as sin, and its blatantly obvious most of the time. Nintendo isn't doing this, but they aren't entirely altruistic about their motives. They openly compete against their third party developers. Too many deluded posters I suppose. Its a machine, its a company, and it most assuredly isn't god.

I think part of the reason Bioshock would stay exclusive is because of how story driven it is. PS3 owners can't play the first one, and depending on what this new one delivers as far as a continuation or a prequel, it may be impossible to follow without playing through Bioshock first. This is all considering this rumor is true of course.

Uhhh....DMC4, MGS4 (I know you probably still believe any rumors of it going 360), and if you're comical, then Beautiful Katamari all say say hi

How do you know I believe in rumors of MGS4 going to 360 jackass? I've yet to mention it or agree with it. MGS4 actually proves my point of a continuation of story staying on it's console manufacturer of origin and not going multiplatform. MGS2 tried to come to the Xbox back in the day and the audience wasn't biting.

I also mention two posts under where you quoted me from thatone developer's actions does not equal another's. 2k Boston(Bioshock) does not equal Capcom(DMC4) and Beautiful Katamari(Namco Bandai). They are different developers and can react differently to changing market conditions. They may want Bioshock 2 to stay exclusive because the narrative requires a playthrough of the original. I'm not saying it's the truth, just a possible scenario. 2K Boston/Irrational Games/Looking Glass Studios have a history of keeping their games traditionally on one platform. Will this continue? Maybe not, but what I cooked up in my head is just as rational as Microsoft buying the exclusive. Again, this is all considering the rumor is true of course.

If Crysis support keyboard and mouse on PS3, I will buy it

I'm not paying over 1K for a computer for this game, and I'm not using controller for FPS.

700$ is enough to buy a PC that runs Crysis on high settings, and therefore will run any game in the next 5 years without upgrade.
