Forums - Gaming - Game of the Year! Dragon Age? WTF!

Sure, there may be some publishers biased against Nintendo. I think many go off and on a lot. (can't figure out why)

Anyway, I just can't take this argument seriously. Who cares about the Game Awards!? Don't most people just click a link, read the winners, and be done with it? And why fuss over Bayo2? It was good! Why would anyone need random individuals from the game industry to tell them their opinion is correct?

Now BioWare can put "Winner. GOTY by The Game Awards" on the box. That's all that will change...

Didn't SM3DW and ALBW receive a lot of GOTYs in 2013?

While I don't think DAI is a GOTY basing your argument on Metacritic is not a good start.

They did? I only remember GTAV and TLOU winning many GOTY awards last year!

Your mistake was using Metacritic as a definitive reference.

The trend of GOTY these days is a game which have fused story and gameplay like from Bioshock to TLoU, and Nintendo is weak for story(they only concentrate into gameplay itself), so it makes Nintendo far from GOTY.

Mario Kart 8, Smash bros, Beyo 2 are great games, but they are not GOTY style game, simply.

Dragon Age has much more to offer. And it has a wider market appeal.
Every element matters, ruling one major element out (like the plot / story) because it "doesn't matter" might be convenient for you and for the fans. But reality is different, fortunately.

I know what you mean. I've clocked over 28 hours of gameplay and I've only had it since late last week. Its already my 6th most played game according to Raptr and Im not even close to finishing the main quest or side activities. Its been forever since I got this hooked on a game. Im actually scared (in a good way) of another playthrough because of just how long it takes to do everything XD.

As to the OP DA:I has far more moving parts (things to judge) than bayonetta so the .2 meta difference doesnt mean much. Bayonetta 2 simply doesn't have the same amount of scope or content as DA:I and it would choke if it did. I dont own Bayonetta 2 but I do have the demo, its good but not even close to the same level of quality or polish as DA in regards to story, audio, graphics and definately story.  The gameplay is diffrent but I much prefer DAI party based combat which looks and feels fantastic when you unlock great active and passive techniques for all your party members. The game also has so many random but awesome distractions like horse races (true story), asteriums, shard collection, operations, judgements, upgrades, requisitions and claiming keeps and landmarks. There's just so much to do and NONE of it is boring.

Its really good, surprisingly good given the scope of it all. This is what happens when talented developers like Bioware arent rushed by their publishers, I guess they learnt from DAII, Ubisoft should pay attention.

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

Having a good story definately helps but it hasnt stopped Nintendo games from winning GOTY before. Personally I feel both Smash and Kart are incremental upgrades over their predecessors, so as good as they are they I wouldnt considerr either as GOTY. Bayonetta 2 has good gameplay but other aspects of the game simply arent enough to make it GOTY for most outlets.

The difference between DA:I and DAII is like night and day, it manages to make Biowares past games like Mass Effect 2 and 3 feel small by comparison. I could say the same when comparing it to The Witcher 2 (which I freaking love). The scope of the game is just ridiculous and they handle everything so well. Such efforts deserve to be recognised, they truly do when most devs want to give us less (and buggy) content for more money.

People are trying to push nintendo out of the console business because they aren't following suit with the money hungry tactics of Sony and MS. Nintendo is keeping it real and using their old school business model which is the way gaming should be. Sony and MS are trying to force everything digital with tons of dlc/microtransactions and all sort of shady practices that are NOT consumer friendly.

It's expected. DA is an open world WRPG. Skyrim showed that critics absolutely love this.

I agree. But it wasnt the case this year. There was a clear contender that excelled in every technical presentation aspect and still didnt get the award for some misterious reasons.

Contender's are MEANT to compete against other games, not automatically win them ...

Just be thankful that some of the japanese games became nominees ...

That comment right there, proves my point.
