I knew there was going to be a topic about this VGChartz, just because Bayonetta 2 scored well and is a Wii U exclusive doesn't mean it deserves GOTY.

Dragon Age has a lot more going for it than that. It's available on more platforms, has a wider audience, and isn't Japanese.

Still, a metacritic score shouldn't be the reason a game gets GOTY. Otherwise, it's GTA5 again.

Oh no, I'm not trying to take anything away from Dragon Age, all I'm saying is that the "sexism" debacle was probably more relevant to the decision than it being a Nintendo exclusive. I can't even begin to imagine how horrifying the media would look like (I'm looking at you, Polygon) if Bayonetta 2 won the game of the year award. And I agree that Metacritic shouldn't be a reference at all.

Regardless, I agree to some extent... I mean, I just can't see Zelda Wii U winning it next year even if it is by far the best game released in 2015. Even if Uncharted 4 and others disappoint, you know. But we'll see.

Why the cynicism? Zelda is pretty much given a free pass by all gaming journalist and media.

It wasn't going to win. Not because it's a Nintendo-published game, but because it didn't do anything particularly new or exciting besides, from all accounts, being a very well made niche title on a system where its type of game isn't common.

As much as some people want to think of it as something more, it's just not a big deal in the context of the industry as a whole.

True but it's not close with opinions when it's 91, 89 with critic scores and 9.1 and 7.5 user scores it seems a little bias is all

Are you serious? There is effectively no difference between an 89 and 91 on metacritic, that sort of difference is just for fanboy bragging rights. The difference between an 89 and 91 is just one review out of perhaps 60 or 70 that is notably lower than most. 

DA I is my personal GOTY easily. Even if I had played B2, because of my preference for RPGs over hack'n'slash, I have no doubt DAI would still be my GOTY. So I happen to agree with the game awards. Having said that I actually thought B2 would win the GOTY so it was a happy surprise to me that it went to DAI.

I also don't understand how you link missing out on a GOTY with allegedly constant demands from people for Nintendo to stop making home consoles. They don't seem to relate.

That means the same for every other game by definition.

 

Replace Bayo 2 with a Sony title, replace it with exclusive and scored well and you've got the same shoe size, one that fits all, then by what you say no other game deserves to be GOTY.

I disagree, Dragon Age is deserving. I'm torn between Bayo, Smash and dragon age

While I don't think DAI is a GOTY basing your argument on Metacritic is not a good start.

I believed ALBW won the GOTY at Gamespot (those glorious meltdowns).

SM3D mostly won gotys at Nintendo only sites (gonintendo, nintendolife, etc) as they didn't have much of a choice.

I think SM3DW got a GOTY from Eurogamer. So they both got at least one GOTY from a major gaming outlet. And that was in the year of the 2 GOTGs. Doesn't sound to me like widespread Nintendo hate.

Nintendo had a pretty good year with at least Bayo 2 and SSB being GOTY contenders. But there was also other stuff so I don't think it was entitled to a win.

That obsession with DAI is weird though. It's an absolutely solid game but it has issues and it's missing something special.

I don't really see the appeal on Bayonetta 2, I tried the demo and thought it was pretty lame.

Dragon Age is my GOTY. Also, using metacritic as an argument as to why Bayo 2 should have won GOTY over Dragon Age is poor.
