Forums - Nintendo - Captain Toad features lighting enhancements to the SM3DW graphics engine!

I was not considering buying Captain Toad (I´m short on money right now....) but after seeing so many positive articles about it everywhere, I´m definetely looking forward to it!!

Definetely I´ll buy it with Super Smash Bros next January - well, if I can find it in my country

Besides the shadows, the pipes appear to have additional shading, and bloom has been added where the sun hits the white clouds.

Good to see that Nintendo took the time to enhance these levels instead of just recycling them.

You can really see their Wii U graphics improving, from NSMBU at launch, to Pikmin 3, to 3D World, to MK8, and now Captain Toad.

I couldn't help myself, I smiled at the people who responded that they saw it in my review! You actually watch my stuff!

Sorry, back on topic: I actually think the SM3DW graphics engine always had this capability, but that it was scaled back a bit to consider 4-player mayhem. Nonetheless, I have to agree that it's good to see that Nintendo recognized the extra room and decided to make use of it!

It's nice to see Nintendo slowly improve their games graphically. I was surprised when I saw how nice Captain Toad actually looked.

Nintendo's really learning some stuff with their HD development. I can't imagine what the games at the end of the Wii U's lifecycle will look like. (imagine dat Metroid doe)

I really had thought more people noticed this, but apparently not...

Fortunately, I took pics and posted them to Twitter to highlight a few areas showing it off!

I didn't think they'd get more out of that SM3DW engine, but they did, and I'm glad to see Nintendo's HD development skills are progressing nicely!

Are you sure its not just inentionally different light? I mean Mario has  top down light/shadows for precise platforming. Captain toad does not need that so they can change the light sources/direction etc.

Maybe but there is an improvement in terms of shadow casting like how more entities are receiving dynamic shadowing ...

Nintendo is great at utilizing their hardware and still this, but nice to see even now they can improve. Look at dem shiny pipes.

What fatslob said, plus there's added bloom where the sun hits the clouds, and what looks like an additional specular layer on the pipes.

Brazil will not receive Captain Toad (on the mainstream stores, that is), so I think you should buy it digital. It will be cheaper, I guess.

Dunno what to display here, soon I'll know what to put.
