But theres been quite some 3rd party bundling as well, right? |
Indeed, but id guess that at least half of total first party game sales on xb have been from incentive gifting or bundling, very much so for forza 5

Its due to how many of those first party games were given away / bundled. |
That is not likely the reason. Most of the bundles that sold in large quantities were 3rd party for both PS4/XB1.
More likely is the fact that XB1 has blown its wad and put out more first party big releases this fall through retail. Where as the PS4 has a little less that way. But, if you look at the digital side(not being tracked), the PS4 has a lot more games available.
So, almost by default the ratio would be this way through March next year. After all the big 1st party titles from Sony release next year, the PS4 will likely take the lead by the end of 2015.
It is near the end of the end....

To be fair, why would the ratio between 1st party and 3rd party be any different for digital? OP nice find! This tells us what we already know though; 3rd party is what drives X1 and PS4 sales and Nintendo fans only buy Nintendo games. But Im a little surprised to see that X1 is selling more 1st party games than PS4; is it due to instal base lr something? |
You are not looking athe facts properly, nor the overall bigger picture. To answer both your questions.
The ratio is bound to be different because the NPD not tracking digital sales means that it does not track any of those games that are digital only releases. Thats kinda a big deal in this day and age. Especially when you consider the amount of indie titles that are only on the PS4 and the fact that a lot of people from cerain territories prefer to buy their games digitally cause its cheaper for them. Take me for instance, I have an american PS account, but do not stay in NA. Buying a game digitally costs what it cost, buying a physical copy where I stay will cost as much as $80.
And why XB1 first party sells more than PS4, its because up until november, what you had with the XB1 was a dedicated userbase. Majority of the people that bought an XB1 got it for either titanfall, halo:MCC or sunset overdrive. Peopel buying a console for thirdparties will usually get a PS4.
In all honesty, as far as that data is concerned, the only thing that matters is who sells the most software all round, cause that is directly proportional to who is making the most money. The PS4 being the better 3rd party console is also pretty important, but thats another story.

I don't NPD track bundled software so you are both wrong :) . Thats why NPD showed destiny selling better on the XB1 than on the PS4 and numbers later revealed that the PS4 was behind by like 100k units. If the NPD tracked software bundled with hardware that would never have been the case. Same can be said about AC:U. NPD has PS4 being the top selling sku, but we all know that over 300k XB1s with AC:U bundled in were sold anyways.

As far as indies goes on PS4, most of them are 3rd party games, and that means even less 1st party games were bought compared to 3rd party, no? What I was trying to say is, there shouldn't be much of a difference between how 3rd and 1st party games are bought; I quite doubtful that 1st or 3rd party games sell better in retail shops or digital stores. If anything, 3rd party games should do even better digitally since that's how indie games are bough.

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

I beat that a lot of Titanfall's sales came from bundles... And let's not forget that Knack got bundled like crazy in Japan....

The ratio of third to first party on the Wii U is actually closer than I thought. Still, this is some interesting info
| DJEVOLVE said: Only 11% 3rd party for Wii U was not expected, I knew sales where not good with 3rd party but 11% is a huge problem. |
Just to check... you do realise that it's 11% of all 3rd party sales are on Wii U, not 11% of all Wii U game sales are 3rd party, right?
When you consider how few notable third party games are actually being released on the system, that's actually not as bad a number as it sounds. It would certainly be interesting to find out what percentage of third party development money is being spent in developing Wii U games, since most of the big-budget titles aren't getting Wii U versions, and some of those that did make it to the Wii U had the Wii U port as nothing more than a quick-and-ugly port, suggesting that they didn't actually spend all that much on the Wii U version.
