Forums - Sony - Driveclub is the most underrated game of the year

Have you played Driveclub?

Its a love it or hate it game. Weather update made plenty jelly over its graphics and made its lovers back it that much more. But its still a heavily flawed game lacking content, BUT. What it does good it does really great.   There will never be a consensus about if DC is great good or mediocre, all are right and all are wrong.

DC is that or this dependant on you, its a game where other peoples opinions really matter F all.

Must be those damm nintendo fanboys bringing down driveclub whenever they can. I havent seen a single post from an obvious Nintendo fan on this site grouping it with ryse and killzone (is killzone even considered as bad as ryse??). Prehaps you should lay off having a go at an entire group if you're going to make shit up.

I'm not making shit up dude, I've seen comments like that, but of course I can't single out the users who did so.

Anyways, the ones who grouped KZ: SF and Ryse are right on that one, both the games are equally bad. But Driveclub is far better.

So you've seen a user who said something like that and decided that somehow the whole fanbase is the reason that driveclub has a bad rep? It has a bad rep becuase it's launch was horribly broken, missing features, and reviewers found it's actual gameplay to be average.

Now there is nothing wrong with liking or loving this game, hell some of my favorite games haven't exactly scored highly, but I don't think it's fair to start blaming everything but the game because some people don't agree with you.

Thing is DC was criticised due to things other than gameplay, like it not being an open-world game, lack of content in SP (which is true) and its aggressive AI. They completely overlooked all the things it did well, and there was an overwhelming number of pros than cons. For all it did so well, it never got praised. Even worse are the people who call it a poor game with great graphics without even playing it. That's why I said its underrated.

85+ seems like a tall order in 8th generation scores... Just being completely honest there. It could be a few points higher though, but its close to the score I think it deserves.

Have you even played it?

Yes.

Cool, whats your psn? I'd love to see how much time you put into the game.

I don't own a PS4 yet. :[

Driveclub is a fantastic arcade-racer which had a terrible launch and got punished for it in reviews and general perception.

Actually, the online portion of the game worked fine when most critics were playing it. It got punished for other reasons.

The PS4 is a lacking notable racing games so people will buy Driveclub. But maybe an Arcade racer wasn't a good idea.

Did you even read the rest of the paragraph? Its an absolute must-have track based arcade racer. Its an amazing game with very good gameplay. Driveclub will sell because its a damn fine game.

Haters gonna hate. I agree with you 100% most people who have actually player d it will. People who havent will watch a vid on YouTube and read a bad review and dismiss it. Case and point^^

Yeah and unfortunately the vast majority on the internet belongs to the type who base their opinions on others opinions of a game that is reviews. They criticise  agame even though they have never played it, just because of some reviewer.

And thanks to the large Nintendo fanbase on this site, I see DC being grouped with crappy games like Ryse and KZ: SF, which is a shame.

You mean like how Sony fans on here dismiss Nintendo games, rate them lower than PS4 titles that can never be matched because I'll say this, I don't care if you claim you haven't seen that happen but I have, you want to paint Ninty fans just like that you yourself will be painted in return.

Besides what about people not liking Ryse, and KZ?, are people not allowed to have opinions or just simply not like a game based on what they've seen, looked up and paired with their preferences?.

Before Driveclub suffered I wasn't into it at all, I was more into FH2 due to how it looked and played, I loved BP back in 2008 and how that played, it being open world and since then I've hardly been into racing games that aren't open world, it's just one of my main prefs when it comes to racing games.

The other part you have to realise is that those that don't have a PS4 don't exactly have access to a demo version and even then if they did I still recall them holding back the PS+ version (In which you have to pay PS+ sub just to gain access), of course some people are going to base on footage and current news telling of the state of the game, that's something that happens with many games, not just one Sony game, hell on the forums here any Xbox game not tied to the Xbox Empire main threat almost always gets downplayed or paired instantly against a Sony title and then downplayed, it's far more tiring than seeing one Sony game that has actually had issues and problems thanks to Sony itself than ones created by users themselves over miniscule things.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

So then I'll assume you played Driveclub for 2-3 hours at most and thats how you made your conclusion? Boy if I gave my review of TLOU when i was 3 hours into the game it wouldn't be a 10/10 I'll tell you that much.

It deserve its score. The game came out not finished and I still can't access one of the career mode that they gave for free. Its a nice game but it doesn't deserve a 9 that's for sure.

I don't really understand the lack of content complaint. It has more tracks than any arcade track based racers before it, 65 now, 30 unique, Motorstorm started with 6, 10 in PGR4, 16 for Pacific rift, 33 in Apocalypse although not unique, and that game just wasn't very good.
It has a decent selection of vehicles too for an arcade racer (50 at launch). It's not FH2's car list, yet that borrows them from the sim version. All the cars behave different. It's enough for variety, not too many to dilute the challenges too much, or drive around in a bunch of almost the same handling cars. Anyway more are coming, and the addition of the lightweight vehicles in the free DLC did bring some different cars.

The tour mode doesn't have too many races, still took me 20 hours to get every star. Then you can make your own. If you want to beat every possible challenge you have 65 tracks x 56 cars x 5 difficulty levels x 24 time of day x cloud / weather options, same for time trials and drift challenges. It seems reviewers didn't look beyond the Simon says tour mode.

It mostly got criticized for all the things it was not trying to be, going against the grain of offering a little bit of everything while remaining a master at none. We have enough open world collectathon checklist games. It's funny though, people praising open world for letting you do whatever you want, but apparently lack the imagination to set up their own race events. Still want that checklist to work of I guess.

Well Sony and the devs messed up its launch, but now that its fixed, it is sad that more people won't play it cause it does look like a great game.

No, most of the complaints had to do with the game play. Also, it came after some of the same critics reviewed Forza Horizon 2. That's a great game so Driveclub probably felt like a step down in comparison.

What it does well is just average, that's why it got an average metascore.

The game didn't score terribly low and sales are respectable. Why not just be happy the game isn't a failure?
