they dominate because throughout time their only (real) competition has been Sega and now Sony. Everyone knows and trusts Nintendo handhelds. the PSP is only competition because of the PS name. the Nintendo name is what sells their handhelds.

Because even my Uncle and Aunt (both 55+) are buying a Nintendo DS...

Because they're the only company that has demonstrated an understanding of why people buy handheld gaming devices?

If you want a videogame system that is portable, has a good battery life, acceptable load times, and games which are enjoyable in 5 to 20 minute intervals your only choice is a Nintendo handheld.

That one's not true at all--ever heard of the Game Gear, N-Gage, Neo Geo Pocket, or Jaguar?  All the other reasons you mentioned, I agree with, but it's just not true that they had no competition.  It's just that they wiped the floor with them so badly that people THINK there was no competition.

i like that idea. The first system that comes out with multiple colors is the one that wins.

DS colors > PSP colors

I believe that is the sole reason.
