Forums - Sony - Souls & Street Fighter, Which Community is Next?

Sony have practically monopolised the core gaming market. And they've earned it.

1 million for a main line MGS is too little, specially with the great software sales PS4 and Xone are having with third party games in comparison with last gen consoles.

I know, but on the worst-case scenario, I think PP on X1 can pull one million units. Something less, and I would really be surprised.

It would also be telling data, that's for sure.

Really only the hardcore gamer would know that bloodborne is related to darksouls.

The only genre I feel is weak for exclusives on playstation is FPS they really dont have a mass market shooter. I may be wrong but they do well with must other genres?

I might be wrong, but I was under the impression, that only "harcore" gamers played Souls games? :)

You are right, FPS has always been a hard one for Sony.

That actually true haha, but I wouldnt be surprized if most of them darksoul players didnt know about bloodborne. Just looking at the sales for DS1 and DS2 id say they DS1 buyer didnt think the game was really hard.

Maybe it had something to do with Hidetaka Miyazaki not directing Dark Souls II?

Was that commonly known at the games release? I remember reading that a week or two after launch but im not sure it was always known. but normally when these studio heads arent involed it doesnt really affect the sales, games like batman, call of duty, god of war still sell well.

Dragon Quest is next.

That's the sad part.
It was originally always a 1 console game, going from Nintendo to Sony, only the last game (all 3 entries ) went multiplat, so that's not that much of a loss, just going back to what it always was.
To be honest, one of the things that allowed FF13 to be so criticized was it being multiplat, so it hadn't a flag to defend it.
Exclusive games always have a different status, it can be a good thing being exclusive.

Final Fantasy 13 and 13-2 would have been garbage still and only the most blind and devout follower of a company would have changed their their opinion with it being exclusive.

Sony shoulda just got exclusivity for MGS since the series sells poorly on Xbox, but they missed that oppourtunity.

I'll be surprised if The Phantom Pain sell less than one million on Xbox One.

Paying for 1 million worth of sales for exclusivity is definitely doable.  Ground Zeroes sold 5x more on PS4.

Seriously, 2015 will be a bloodbath.

Feb: The Order: 1886 (Playstation exclusive)
Mar: Bloodborne (Playstation exclusive)
Mar: Battlefield: Hardline (Marketing rights)
Mar: MLB 15: The Show (Playstation exclusive)
Mar: Final Fantasy Type-0, with Final Fantasy XV demo included (Japanese market)
Apr: Mortal Kombat X (Has always sold better on PS)
Apr: Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin (Has always sold better on PS)
May: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Jun: Batman: Arkham Knight (Marketing rights)
Jun: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (Has always sold better on PS) (if the rumors are true)

Don't fool yourself, even critics would be praising it if it was exclusive, that's how this works.
Some games get status and additional points only by being exclusive.

I'm not saying every exclusive game have to follow this, but specially in well known franchises it happens all the time.

Critics praised those pos games even without it being exclusive.  They praised it because it was Final Fantasy.  86 on Metacritic.  It'll get more praise, yes, but like I said, only the most blind and devout followers would praise the game.  It's like Playstation All Stars or Ratchet and Clank All 4 One.  Being exclusive didn't help most people from thinking the games are garbage.

They praised it because Final Fantasy 13 is a great game. You don't like great games getting the praise they deserve, Kupo?

Great games  often get overlooked while the sh*t rises to the top.
