Been looking at things on the internet recently and saw yet another article claiming Aeris' death scene in FF7 as one of the saddest moments in gaming. There are so many articles or people that would say that it's easy to find some.

But when I was playing the game and that scene happened I was just like 'meh, didn't ever use her anyway, won't miss here'. Is there anyone else out there that just didn't give a crap when she died?

counterquestion: can you name me any character or any scene from a videogame that you actually care about?

I can give you several. Most of them from JRPGs.

Most of the cast of Baten Kaitos, especially Mizuti.

Basch and Balthier from FFXII.

Rinoa of FFVIII.

Millenia and Tio of Grandia 2.

Vanille of FFXIII.

Just a sample but there are more. Definitely would've been heartbroken if any of them died in the game.

Its one of gamings most iconic deaths. I knew she died before even playing the game so that scene didn't exactly shock me or anything as I was anticipating it anyway. Wish I could've experienced it for myself.

Yup, I didn't care. But don't go around criticizing that scene, it's practically the only reason the game is so praised.

The game is praised because it is still the greatest game of all time, but Aeris death was more shocking than sad.People down playing the impact of her death on gaming must have forgot how back then you did not have main supporting characters dying.Especially in a game that had a deep narrative.

ah ok, just wanted to know if it was just the case with ff7 or you don't care about videogame characters in general. as for me, i cared and that's mainly because of 3 reasons:

1. aerith was the last of her kind and an overall lightheated, caring, positve person. a rarity in a depressing world like ff7. someone like her simply does not deserve to die.

2. i always wanted to have her in my party.

3. the music, which contributed at least 70-80% to the whole atmosphere.

I played FFVII much later than released, around 2005. When she died (which I already knew) it didn't really do much for me. It sucked but I was not attached to her like that.

There have been other deaths with far more impact in other games than this one, in my opinion.

So none of them die? ARGH, spoilers!

Not sure if my opinion should count in this one since I'm a bit of a FF7 hater myself, but I didn't care one bit when she died, and everyone just forgets about her later on from what I've heard. (Didn't finish the game, just Disc 1.)

IIRC, Cloud is still angsty about it in the movie sequel.

Nah, her little hair decoration ends up mattering to the end.

Her, not so much.

Nope.
