Forums - Sony - Did Sony know about FFVII?

my thoughts?

Everyone should let FF7 die already. Has anyone sat down and given thought to just how big a project a proper remaster or remake of FF7 will be? I mean lets be serious here? why will any company want to spend 10s of millions remaking a game when they could invest that into a new game?

A proper remake of FF7 will be a very very very very big task by modern game standards. If anything my problem with SE was that their stage time was talking about a game that i couldn't care less about, rather than talk about FF15 or KH3.

because they have no good new games coming? SE is at a lowpoint, the last realy good ff was early in the ps2 life, since then they are just a giant fail.  but they fear to remake ff7, its a mystic gew crafted in ancient times, they cant just make another, they lack the talent and they will be the most hated company if they fuck up...

This overreaction is ridiculous. Square Enix employees getting death threats because FF7 is a PC port. But this is the gaming community we have today. Such a shame.

Exactly. These constant overreactions make me embarrassed to be a gamer.

If FF7 was remade today, say with IQ of FF15. But everything else was left the same, people will be shocked just how linear the game is. FF7 can't be remade today with out a LOOOOOOOT of changes to the games sore mechanics and presentation. So much so that by the time they are done, it wouldn't even be FF7 anymore.

you can have a realy linear game if you tell a good story, they should speed up the fighting a bit, not change things massivly, just shorter cutscenes for some attacks. it would sell like hotcake why? because there is no competiton around.

What makes you think that they didn't know?

The fact that they gave such a prime spot in a convention to it.  They had never done this before when it was re-released.  The fact that a gaming journalist for Game was tweeting about how he couldn't believe it was finally happening before the event (clearly he was trolled, too).  A lot of people seemed to be hinting that something huge was coming...I find it hard to believe that Sony would want to look foolish when it was just a re-release.

That being said, I tend to agree that they knew, it's just hard to believe.

They knew!!! They do the same with Indie game Sony just want to bolster their release lineup. The more indie game or port of older game they bring over will result in bigger release schedule look that much better vs competition. How many treads have you seen comparing Sony's line up vs Microsoft. Most of Sony lineup is made up of smaller indie game.

Just look at the coverage it's getting .... Final fantasy VII coming to PS4 in 2015 not in HD or remastered

They knew, but what they havent said is the entire story about it, lets just say that the story hasnt quite ended.

i dont know what people have, the original FF7 despite being milked by various spin offs just got released on two platforms, PS1 and PC. The later fans were crying to play it but was very incompatible to run on newer PCs and also very rare and expensive to get a copy until they released it on steam. Now PS4 will have the definitive version.

I think we are going to see a lot of FFs for the next gen consoles who have now x86 architecture. Square released not only FF8 on steam but also FF 13 and X2 as well as lighting returns which will come next xear on the pc. I think its likely that all 3 will be ported and released in bundle for the ps4 and maybe xbox 1.

Platform holders know about what third party devs are up to years before their stuff gets released to the public as part of their certifying games. So sony would know if SE was making a true FF VII remaster or not.

They knew, and let them announce it because there really isn't much in the way of bigtime games coming in 2015.... that's why. Not much to show, so let's throw in a pc port of a ps1 port... yay. 2015 is going to suck, maybe a little less than 2014, but it is still going to suck. I wish I wouldve waited 2 years to pick up a ps4. Mine hasn't been turned on in months. Oh well, I guess.

Of course they knew. Why is that so hard to believe? Sony already gave Square time at the PS4 reveal to show an old tech demo for an engine that they ended up canning without ever making a single game with it. This is a step up from that, at least.

You don't love Kresnik anymore?

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!
