Forums - Nintendo - Mario Maker is becoming my most anticipated Wii U game of 2015

Marketed right, this could be a HUGE hit for Nintendo. It's like Little Big Planet, but with the benefit of a more powerful license, and Nintendo's simplistic (albeit less ambitious) style.

That's not a knock on Little Big Planet, but simplicity is often needed to make games like that casual hits.

Ya I think this is a nice shake up from the NSMB series which doesn't really feel "new" anymore. NSMBU was still a great game but with 4, 2D Mario titles that are very similar releasing in a span of 6 years, Nintendo needs to take a break from it until they find a way to make 2D Mario feel like a big event again.

Mario Maker has alot of potential and I hope they incorporate it into future 2D Mario titles, instead of keeping it a standalone series. Let's say New Super Mario Bros 3 releases in 2017 for Nintendo's next-gen devices, I hope Mario Maker is a mode that's included in the game instead of making them 2 different series.

It would be totally awesome if then Nintendo takes the ideas created by fans - which will no doubt amaze - and allow the fans to sort of "help create the next 2D Mario".  It would be akin to the fan submissions for the bosses of the original Mega Man games.

Always said this game had the most potential of anything Nintendo's done in awhile. It doesn't deserve to be flying under the radar the way it seems to be. Should be hyped and marketed on the level of a Smash/Kart/Brand New Mario.

I can already imagine all the bullshit Mario levels this will spawn.

It looks interesting and can be a huge hit but it's not even in my top 10 of most anticipated 2015 games.

It would be nice if they have two modes. Advanced and casual.

What would be the difference between each mode? U can customize the levels to be as simple or difficult as u want, so I don't see the need to make different modes. Maybe there can be a rating system for the levels, u share them and people who complete them can rate them on a scale  from1-10 on how difficult they are, when u go to play other people's levels u can choose which ones u want based on difficulty.

I meant like an advanced vs. easy editor where in advanced mode, you can change EVERYTHING behind the scenes like say, graivity, particle effects, respawn times, textures etc.

That would be pretty cool but I doubt they will do something like that

will be the definitive 2d mario game.
but of course, only if i can download other people stages. if we dont, zero interest.

would be nice if they include a mario paint comoser, just to make the stages musics too.(and if you change the theme, the instruments should change too...). will be very easy to manilupate with gamepad...

It's been one of my most anticipated games since E3; and not just for me personally, but for its release onto the market. If Ninty plays their cards right, I seriously believe this game could work wonders for WiiU.

U and I have both said a $249.99 Mario Maker bundle should release next year but what exactly do u mean by work wonders?

I think the above mentioned bundle in May followed by Splatoon in June could help next summer sales match this year's boost from Mario Kart but I can't see it causing Wii U sales to skyrocket.

Well, when I say work wonders, it's still a relative term.  I'm not expecting WiiU to suddenly start outselling the PS4 weekly or anything, lol.

My main point is that Mario Maker can give the WiiU a more mass-market push.  It kinda capitalizes on the whole game-creation craze that Minecraft made super popular and it does it with a beloved franchise.  Furthermore, it's probably the strongest use of showing how the Gamepad can be very beneficial.  It's quite possible that the console would be in a very different place had Mario Maker been a launch game.

The one advantage that MM has over Kart or Smash is that it's a new concept and franchise for Nintendo and it gives the WiiU its own identity, which is a big reason why throwing more Wii Sports/Fits at the console is a lost cause, IMO.

Ok then I completely agree with u. Mario Maker and Splatoon are two games that have the best chance of becoming some of Nintendo's mega-sellers alongside games like Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Zelda, 2D/3D Mario.

After seeing the analysis I too am much more interested! Now they just need to confirm 4-player support and online then I'm sold!

Will Mario Maker have a phisical release, or will it be digital only? This could sell a lot of WiiU if it does come retail.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I don't recall them stating otherwise so it should be both.
