Short of playing it on PS Now if they ever add PS1 games to the service, this will be the only way to play FF7 on the PS4, so I suppose that's something. 

I really don't know why they wasted the effort with an announcement for the 2013 PC port though.

But looking at a large chunk of the PS4 catalog, a significant number of smaller, DD releases are essentially ports of PC games. This is more or less what console gaming has come to include.
