I think the cross platform play had more to do with the exclusivity. If i recall correctly, several games before (Like FFXIV for example) tried to do cross platform with PC and micro wasn't having it.

This is going on past experiences. This was the stunt capcom pulled in the 4th gen to get out of exclusivity.
