Um... How much of this thread is actually about Street Fighter V?
Anyway... I didn't like SFxT very much. I also didn't like SSFIV too much. Well, I hated SFxT, more specifically, but I tolerated SSFIV.
I need to see who else is coming to the game, though. I wish they would drop Ryu as the main Street Fighter character, and focus on Alex. He's all over the world, training, so he could easily miss the tournament for training, or something.
That's what was going to happen with Street Fighter III. Maybe it needed Ryu because Alex was a no-body and the game already suffered from a lack of familiar faces.
But, Street Fighter II had all new characters, and SFIII did too. That was kinda the tradition. SFII brought back 3 characters from SFI, SFIII brought back 1 character from SFII. It would have been nice for SFIV to have an all new cast, with maybe 3-4 characters returning from each main entry.
I don't want a next-gen update to Street Fighter IV in the form of Street Fighter V. I want a lot of new characters. That are as unique as the SFIII characters, but remember able and likable as the SFII character. Besides. I'm sick of everyone from SFII except maybe Guile. Part of the charm with SFII was that it had Dhalsim, Honda, Guile, and others. It was different.
So was Street Fighter III. But it wasn't the cast that hurt SFIII. People love Q, Ibuki, Urien, Dudley, etc. They didn't like Remy very much, but the problem with street fighter was that it was strictly made as a tournament game. Everything in the game could be parried, even though you needed to be a robot to truly parry every attack on screen.
It was difficult, but still fun. It looked nice, and was a solid game. Just overly complicated.
I'd like to see Parrying come back to SFV. Although, focus attacks were exclusive to SFIV, we might see something new to SFV. Focus attacks aren't coming back. We might get something else.
I don't like the art style for SFIV. But, characters don't look so stupid this time around. They've improved the art style. I still played SFIV despite not liking the visuals. These, I could see myself liking, after seeing the game more in motion.
It's too early to say anything about the game, though. We don't know how much other games, like Marvel Vs. Capcom and Street Fighter X Tekken have influenced this new game. Hopefully for the better.
I know this game is going to get DLC additions in the future. Capcom can work on this stuff during development if they want to, but, if the main game doesn't feel like it's worth the 60 dollars. I'm not buying it. My friends will be picking the game up anyway.
When I first played SFIV years ago, he asked me, "You like it? You going to get it?!" and, I told him right then, I'll wait for Super.
SFII had Super, Super Turbo, Hyper, etc... I don't even know them all. It had to have been around 8 different versions of SFII.
Street Fighter III even had the new generation, 2ND Impact, and 3RD Strike... and 3RD Strike Online, if that counts.
SFV will have an update. No doubt about it. This is something I know capcom expects. They better make sure that game is worth the 60 bucks, and not release a 30 dollar game and sell for 60, and sell you the rest in bits of 15 bucks, then the next year, release Super Street Fighter V for 40 bucks.
Although the update to V wont be called "Super" that was done because SFIV was basically a revamping of SFII. Another reason why I didn't like it so much.
Give me Juri, give me at least 25 characters, and at least 16 stages, and I'll think about this game. Any less, and it's really not worth it. Most cases, I tend to go for the newer characters in game series. I'm much more likely to like SFV's new additions more than the returning casts.
