They just could not be bothered to add GC controller/memory card circuitry/ports to the mainboard because of the added costs Also the bluray drive cannot read GC mini disks.
if you feed it Gamecube isos from a SD card usb stick or burned on a normal Wii style DVD it can play them. Then you only need to either emulate controllers or use an adapter like the Smash GC adapter. You then only need to find a way to save the progress by emulating a GC Memory card.
The CPU and GPU of the WiiU are 100% compatible with GC games.
Because Wii is 2 gamecubes taped together and WiiU is 9 Wii's taped together. So its basically 18 gamecubes (just random number obviously)

i dont understand why the wiiu cant just play gamecube games nativeley, is being only backwards compatible with original wii games worth being stuck with powerPC for nintendo ?
Lol the biggest problem is that it might void your warranty? Bruh I had my Wii U since launch, my warranty is long gone since then

A Blu Ray disc reader can't read GameCube discs.
