Unfortunately, such changes are to be expected. When the battery charging cord is not connected, the relatively dark screen forces the developers to make the environments brighter. With console games such limitations does not exist since you can always just change the settings on your TV whenever it gets too dark. Additionally, the fact that it's on a handheld in the first place somewhat limits the potential of the game's immersion, given the lower sound quality as well as the very small screen.
(Which by the way is one big reason why PS Vita performs so poorly. Given its heavy reliance on immersion-based games that all have superior console versions.)
