Well, Nintendo did mention in the ND that the game was "scary," so it would make sense if they actually embraced the atmosphere.
Unfortunately it's Nintendo, so it would also make sense if they didn't actually have a grasp of what gave it that atmosphere in the first place. I could see them taking out most of the eeriness and adding a bunch of ghosts that shout, "BOO!" or something. XD
So I guess we'll have to see.
