Forums - Sales - Microsoft STUFFED in Europe, Sony STUFFED in Japan.

Well ,the Wii has just received what must be their 3 biggest games for the whole generation mind you :Wii Fit ,Mario Galaxy and Smash Bros .

The PS3 situation in Japan isnt good but 3 weeks ago it was doing 35K-40K units weekly and had been doing like that since early november .

Why the sales have plummeted since then ?Hard to answer .Its clear since DMC4 and Disgaea 3 only 1 big game has been released and it was a port from a 360 game one year old and of a not very liked genre by the japanese .Others as Burnout Paradise and even NFS Pro Street have done good enough considering they are occidental titles but for sure werent intended to push hardware .We have to consider too that the last two weeks were tax paying period so disposable income probably was smaller .And third that with Yakuza 3 being released and bundled in some days its natural some of the sales of these weeks are being postponed until then .Also people that prefer the silver to the piano black etc .

I think Sony can do very well in Japan .Dont know if beating the Wii ,but as the PSP has managed to do the japanese paradigm of "the winner takes all " can be broken and the PS3 will have its comeback and without piratery the PS3 one will be with great software sales too .

I disagree on the point that PS3 sales are low despite Yakuza 3 being a week away. There's a bundle for Yakuza 3, so why would people buy it now, when they can buy it next week? Now, I don't expect a significant boost, but it should be enough to push the PS3 past 20k. I think. While I don't expect the PS3 to win out in Japan at all, eventually when enough RPG and mainstream titles for Japan roll out, the PS3 should be forever out of the teens someday. Well, at least for a while.

First of all as other have said there is only 10k units of the bundle.  Second, every major game on PS3 has gotten a bundle, and it didn't affect sales very much.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

its price....wii is cheap and fun (to some people). if sony was 250 it would kill the wii. HD consoles are expensive...... and people do not have money for them.

thats the ONLY problem HD consoles have.....

Microsoft's situation in Europe is overwhelmingly better than Sony's (and Microsoft's) situation in Japan:

- They're still above the PS3 (although this will quickly stop being the case if MS doesn't break the current trend)
- Ignoring the competition, they're selling well enough for a console which no one expected to have any chance during this generation
- They still have many weapons at their disposal, especially GTA4 and price cuts

I believe it will be hard for the 360 to be above the PS3 in Europe at the end of the generation, but if Microsoft plays their cards correctly, the gap won't be too big. With a bit of luck, they could even still be on top at the end.

Didn't they say that about the ps3 when it came out? Hmmmmm

The problem with all this is, that it seems, it's all because of the UK. Mainland Europe seems to hate the machine, with it finishing last on every table according to this website. Take out the UK's weekly 360's sales from the total of 'Other' is all but halfed nearly.

Hmm, pie.

Europe are waiting for MGS 4, FF 13 and GT 5 to come out plus a price cut and sales will pick up dramatically. PS3 needs time and games will be out towards end of year. PS3 to be bundled with a choice of any game would be a good start.

@Kratos: I don't know what you're talking about. The PS3 was supposed to crucify both the 360 and the Wii as soon as it came out, taking much more than 50% marketshare. Both analysts and gaming fans alike used to say so.

@The Fury: That depends on the countries, I believe in Scandinavia and in Germany the 360 was outselling the PS3 before the latter got a 33% price cut. I'm not saying this will change radically, but the 360 could start regaining ground once Microsoft cuts their prices.

Can't you guys get over the nonsense crap Sony PR put out at PS3's launch? By now Sony pretty much turned it around. They cut PS3 manufactoring costs and immediately lowered the PS3 price. They have some kick ass games coming out of their own studios and also great 3rd party support. They offer free online play and are working on making the PSN even better with Home, etc, and it's still going to be free. They have a great piece of hardware and a very reliable console.

Eventually games like MGS4, FFXIII and GT5 will push more consoles in ALL regions. Free online play and Home will push consoles in ALL regions. Blu-ray will push consoles in ALL regions. Sony is in for a good 4-5 years, can the same be said for MS or even Nintendo?

As far as I can see Sony is about to make history by turning a failed console launch into a very successful console.

Now my far fetched prediction... I predict a $299 PS3 with full software BC by Christmas 2008. Also next Christmas , the PS3 will more than double 360 sales (for the season) and will beat the Wii.

Optimistic predictions for 2008 (Feb 5 2008): Wii = 20M, PS3 = 14M, X360 = 9.5M

The PS3 received a 33% price cut a cheaper model was released. How about an even cheaper PS3 model with no hard drive ala the XBox 360 core. Discount the no hard drive model on PS3 by another 33%

There are still no major games on the PS3 in Japan . The only one that comes soon is MGS4 , but the big pusher will be FFXIII ... untill than , I wont say that the PS3 is stuffed in Japan :?
