 it ust had the normal wii controlls, there was no gimmick in those games.  and it was sold to the same crowd cod and halo is sold to, casual gamers.

u can dislike the game with the best quality ever, and u can like et 2600, nothing wrong with that, but saying et 2600 has higher quality than smb because u like it more is WRONG.

Anyway, OT There is nothing Nintendo can do now, or possibly ever in terms of appealing to the hobbyist gamer. Nintendo has it's core audience (and I don't mean "hard core gamer", I mean gamer who buys every Nintendo home console) and it's not very big. If Nintendo is going to do anything to sustainably incrfease market share it needs to go for first console buyers in a way that the Nintendo console does not seem like a "my first console" after which you "graduate" to the Xbox, PS or PC for gaming.

Quality is honestly overrated. The consumer wants choice, they want to choose which games they play, not to have the console manufacturer "dictate" to them what to play. They may simply just want a basketball game or a shooting game or whatever, they don't want to be told "well you should play Pikmin instead because it's a better quality game".

Consumer doesn't want to hear that.

People just want a *format* that lets them play the widest variety of games. From there then they consider exclusives/marketing as a secondary option.

It's just game "nerds" on message boards that play up these things but it's not how the average consumer thinks.

With the exception of the Wii which was a one-shot craze that appealled to soccer moms/senior citizens/non-gaming women, no console without the central third party support of its day has done great.

That goes for Nintendo too -- the NES and SNES were basically the "Playstation" of their day giving people the widest range of content, while the Sega Master System tried to sell itself on 1st party games alone. And it even had some killer 1st party games too (Alex Kidd, Afterburner, Out Run, Space Harrier, etc.), but no one would buy a Sega over a NES which had hundreds of different games to choose from.

seriously, more "drop the gamepad" crap. It isn't going to happen. It's, unlike the kinect, directly implemented into the system and there are some games on the system that would be rendered unplayable without the gamepad. It is what it is. 

The real reason they can't drop it is likely because they have a large inventory of manufactured gamepads. If they dropped the pad, they would have to eat the loss on those controllers and they likely are unwilling to do so. That and probably they are too proud to admit they made a mistake with the controller.

yeah, somebody had to decide if a game with shitloads of bugs and glitches is better or one without those bugs.

and somebody had to decide if working controlls are better or those that dont respond at all.
