I saw something on a different forum that I thought would work very well here at VgChartz.

Basically there was a sticky thread that asked community members to submit artwork to be displayed on the website banner. Mods would select which banner would be displayed using different methods, such as a requested theme, a competition, based around upcoming releases, based on upcoming holidays or events, and even by random.

I believe Vgchartz may have a very creative community and it would be nice to see some community generated art on the site.

well, instead of valuable ad space? I don't think it makes sense financially.

Also, if I have to be seen by others accessing this web with a Pokemon theme, I might as well quit this website. ;)

Well, sounds good to be honest, but I don't how much impact it will have...

I think a podcast would be awesome. 1 every month or 3 months.

We need a mario banner.

I thought about that. There is a very prominent ad-space there. But there are ways to work around.

1)Easy solution. Move the ad-space

2)Harder solution. Incorporate the banner of the month or week as an ad. Here's an example. Lets say UserX makes a banner based around Super Mario Galaxy. The pic could be meta-tagged with "Nintendo", "Wii", "Super Mario Galaxy", "Nintendo DS", etc etc and have google ads direct a click to a related site, like amazon.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to discourage your ideas.

But I believe ioi is the only one programing this site and I don't think he has that much time to spend on it. lol

This is what GoNintendo does for it's site. I don't think it works very well for a supposed unbiased game sales site. People would complain there are too many Nintendo submissions.

yea, I understand that. The ad-space and time will be an obstacle. The site that I saw it on was an anime retailer, so the banner ads were able to link to product that was being sold, VgChartz however does not sell product but runs off ad clicks.

however, fostering a community and developing and expanding a loyal base would only increase revenue from clicks. so, i dont see the idea as being something that would financially hurt ioi.

There's both cons and pros. I would just like to see what the community thinks about the idea.

 Thats were mods come in. By announcing a theme or competition there would be a more diverse field. Like for January lets have Final Fantasy theme, then in Febuary, lets do a valentines or love theme.
