OP reasoning seems confused. Most of the games you mentioned dont really count.

· Halo: Combat Evolved (protecting Captain Keyes) - What??? Hardly an escort mission when him and his marines are perfectly capable of providing gunfire / instant ammo.

· The Last of Us (Ellie) - What??? She is practically on God mode the entire game, she didn't die once in my playthrough (excluding the DLC)

· Half Life 2 (Vance / Calhoun) - What??? Hame as Halo.

· Max Payne 2 (Sniping enemies around Max) - Hardly an escport mission.

· GTA: Vice City (Those infamous "protect this random NPC" missions) - Wrong, awful missions.

· Resident Evil 4 (Ashley) - Wrong, this is one of the worst examples of escort missions.

· Uncharted 2 (Protecting Elena) - God mode.

· Portal (Companion Cube) - What???

Guys... OP isn't trying to convince you that escort missions are great.

OP's point is that the best games around have incorporated, in one way or the other, an escort mission. I know protecting EE in MGS2 is AWFUL, but the game is still a masterpiece, and it has an escort mission on it.
