Forums - Sony - Kadokawa Games announce new PlayStation format dungeon and simulation RPGs

I know Kadokawa are big in other areas, but their game development section is still relatively small compared to other devs.

A lot of those cross gen games would have already been in development for a while though, just like western cross gen games like Watch Dogs and Destiny. Once those have released and they start work on new games it is definitely possible they will go current gen only then.

But... you've seen how long PS2 & PSP lasted in Japan.  We were still getting PSP-exclusive titles like 9 years later!

I'd love to see them dropping current-gen, but I really just don't see it happening this soon.  We'll see exclusives.  But I bet we'll see even more cross-gen stuff.

Actually they aren't really small. They have multiple teams to make games (like these 2 projects) and they actually bigger compared to the other devs. (Aksys, Comcept, etc)

They also published some JRPG's from other studios and western releases such as Lollipop Chainsaw.

Kadokawa aren't exactly small though.  I mean, Natural Doctrine sold a pitiful amount of copies, but they're not a particularly small company - they're a pretty large media corporation with a videogame section.

It's something NIS or Compile Heart could afford to do, but I think medium-large sized pubs would be less likely to take the plunge.  Look at Tecmo Koei - no current gen exclusives announced (all Warriors games + Bladestorm + DOA5LR coming to current gen as well).  Look at Bandai - One Piece is coming to PS3/Vita as well, Sword Art Online is skipping the platform altogether (though, Tekken 7 is looking likely to be current-gen-only).

Yep

Omega Quintet
Neptunia VII
FFF: ADF

All PS4 exclusives already. Sadly Omega Quintet came pre Neptunia which was a mistake as it meant many hadnt made the switch yet.

Omega Quintet was unfortunate, like you say.

Something needed to be the first exclusive JRPG on the platform, but it would've been more beneficial for them to wait until after the big guns of Final Fantasy/Dragon Quest etc.  And indeed Neptunia.

We still are.

Cry, Vita, cry. Stick a needle in your eye.

OT: These look extremely interesting. Thank god someone in Japan can still make something that isn't pantsu or moe.
