Because I doubt you'll play the game enough to appropriately lvl and manage each character completely. Unless you're keeping them in box to collect, I can understand that.

Actually I bought 3 extra to use in games. The ones in the picture are never leaving their box : p

The only useful amiibo function is in smash where it unlocks a AI companion that yo can train and get to lvl 50, you can team up with him, vs him or make him fight for u. In other games it just unlocks costumes or weapons, stuff that used to be given for free for pre-ordering a game, but now u gotta buy a amiibo for.
