I'm sorry if a thread about this article has already been posted.

Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime recently did a video interview with the Wall Street Journal, where he talks about the Wii U and Nintendo’s position in the video game business in today’s world.

He was asked where Nintendo fits in the current world of mobile, tablets, and video game consoles. Reggie said that Nintendo is in a good position because they appeal to a very wide range of gamers. He said:

“We have a very broad audience base, from age 6 to 60 in terms of the content we appeal to from an age standpoint. By providing these unique and differentiated experiences, we can appeal to this diverse base”.

He used Bayonetta 2 as an example, pointing out that it’s an M-rated game, targeted at the core gamer, and Mario Kart 8, which is targeted at the whole family. “Having a broad range of entertainment, we’re able to attract a broad range of players”, Reggie said.

Reggie also pointed out that Nintendo is an advantage when it comes to mobile, since the 3DS has games that no other mobile device has, again, stressing that content is what separates Nintendo from everyone else.

Reggie is on fire!

It's certainly an advantage, but I believe Nintendo should target 75% for teenagers and adults - the core market.

I will be happy when the Wii U sells more than 30M lifetime, but I am currently predicting about 25m.......

It doesn't look good then if PS4 and XB1 supposedly target a much smaller userbase yet are getting double, triple ect the sales.

People still expect it to outsell gamecube lol

Honestly I think their market is mostly core nintendo fans in their 20s and 30s.

C'mon Reggie, spill the beans on when Zelda U, Metroid Dread/Prime 4/Other M 2 and Starfox is coming out.

Why all the "We have games for everyone on our platform" BS? Every console has that...

He should just say "We have the great Nintendo games on our platform." That is true at least.

He is right, it's the content that separates Nintendo from all other devices.
Unfortunately for him, it is also the lack of content that separates it as well.

The only remaining mystery is how this guy still remains employed...

He swallowed those beans.

That's really not true at all. It's just total spin. The Wii U probably has the least diverse audience base. The other consoles will soon have more of everything except platformers and games accessible to the youngest children. There is no shame in that, of course, but everyone knows that the PS4 and XO will soon catch up with and pass the Wii U in terms of content diversity and they'll never look back.

I understand the point he wants to make, that the Wii U is the most open to all age groups, but that's meaningless if a damn good chunk of those age groups are picking something else. Because you CAN have them doesn't mean you actually DO have them.

Also, we need a drinking game based on how many times Reggie says "differentiated experience".

Is he now the most smarmy big wheel among the Console Three?

Not agreeing fully on his Wii U standpoint, but 100% behind him on mobile.
