When XII was released I was working a lot, and was more into PC games because of higher resolution.
EVen never playing it I'm pretty sure it is great because of the team behind it (vagrant story, ff tactics, etc).
Still waiting for an HD verion to play it.

The first hour of the game is pretty slow. Hell, I'd say the first 2 or 3 hours are weak because all you can do is Attack. It's not until you kill the first boss that the actual battle system opens up to you, so I can understand people's poor first impressions.

Exactly.
And damn, if not even people buying JRPG's are not willing to give games a decent shot before throwing them away, the people supposed to be prepared to expend a lot of time with each game... geez, who are supposed to do it?

I dont care if the game is slow. Right now I'm playing Dragon QUest IX, first time playing a DQ game, I'm 2 hours into the game. The beggining is very slow, but you can go places, you can talk to people, you can see different places. But that beggining of FFXIII is just going from place A to Place B in a corridor. Very boring. Then I wanted to know if the game was all the time like this and for my surprise, well, everybody says that a very large portion of the game is like this.
So it will be the first FF I will not be playing.
XII on the other hand I'm just waiting for an HD version. And if it takes too long I will play it on SD on a smaller TV I have here. Right after beating DQIX and Chrono Trigger. And maybe after Tales of Xillia. Hell, I guess there will be time for and HD version of FFXII hahaha
