Forums - Nintendo - Aonuma: Zelda Wii U looks even better than before, update at E3 2015

Does anyone think that it is possible that this game will run at 720p 60fps?
That would improve the game in motion and give the game really fluid controls like we have seen in A Link Between Worlds.

I am anticipating that this game will run at 720p 60fps or 1080p 30fps.

Maybe they will follow the route of some Xbox One games and have the game run at 900p 30fps.

Aonuma announcing that Zelda U looks better than it did at E3 is simply amazing. I would have easily settled for the graphics we saw earlier. Personally, I did not think that the Wii U could top that. Zelda U is definitely going to live up to the series potential of pushing the console. Remember when Zelda games pushed the console to the fullest capacity?
I enjoyed Skyward Sword, but I really do not think it pushed the Wii to its full potential. Whereas Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask (for N64) and Twilight Princess (for GC) pushed the consoles that they were on and were a technical marvel for their time. Skyward Sword looks nice, but it did seem like it was held back. Maybe this was because the game was essentially made twice due to the difficulties of Motion + and scrapping one of their previous engines for it only to follow through with their original plans for the game in the first place.

Zelda U seems like it will be a game changer as Zelda games have been known for in the past. Zelda is my favourite franchise, however admittedly the latest titles - as good as they are, are nowhere near as influential as the series once was.
I feel as if Zelda U will get the series back on track to become a must play title for all gamers, not just Zelda fans.

I agree that MK8/3D World weren't hitting Wii U's maximum, they're too early in the system's life for that.

But by shooting for 1080p with Zelda U, they'd be halving the pixel fillrate they have for  the rest of the graphics. Wouldn't they be better off using that power for better shaders and such at 720p?

If they don't need it, no. I think they'll decide on what they want to do visually before picking a resolution, but I wouldn't doubt them going with something they can go full HD with. This is the Wii U's biggest visual showcase after all.

I just think that it would look better at 720p with twice the detail, and I think Nintendo knows this. But we'll see. How about a bet? :)

I can't even fathom it looking better to be honest. How far can you push a toon -like look before it can be improved upon? I can't wait to see!

That can only be gauged by Nintendo's art style.

Yeah, the last time a console Zelda game pushed the hardware was the Gamecube version of Twilight Princess. Skyward Sword was a great game, in my opinion anyway, but it wasn't among Wii's heavy hitter graphically. Hopefully Zelda U will return to the tradition of games like Ocarina and Majora that pushed the visual envelope.

Oh, I'd definitely love to see them kiss resolution goodbye (my TV is 1080i and I can't tell the resolution difference, so I don't give a shit really) to give us a better looking game or even 60fps, but I don't think it's happening. I haven't made a single VGC bet yet, though - what would the stakes be? (please don't say avatar control, I'm totally loving this new one )

How about just one month of having in our sig: "x was right and I was wrong about Zelda U being 1080p/720p" :P

No Beiber, I promise. ;)

Alright.

So, supposedly I'm betting Zelda Wii U is 1080p 30fps and you're betting it'll be 720p 30fps. Is that it?

(also, about the profile pic, as much as I love this new one, I'm afraid I'll eventually get tired of it some day (here's hoping future myself isn't that heartless))

Righto, it's a bet. :)

But the point is that they might not need to sacrifice detail in order to achieve 1080p.

No matter how powerful the system, 1080p will always take twice as many pixels as 720p, meaning less horsepower for shaders and such.

I disagree, I think Skyward Sword pushed the Wii as far as it could go. I mean, people often say Xenoblade pushed the system to its limit, and because of its smaller environments Skyward Sword looks much, much better than Xenoblade. It ran more smoothly and had shorter loading times, too (though Xenoblade's loading times were inoffensive).

Games like Jett Rocket, Conduit 1 & 2, even the Mario Galaxy games pushed a lot more effects and advanced techniques than Skyward Sword.
