Forums - Gaming - Sonic Boom and the future of the franchise.

The two Sonic Boom games are coming, and the reaction of the public seems something between indiference and disapointment for them. Even without the Sonic fandom being really hard to please, the user score from Metacritic is really low (even if the 3DS version is a bit more lucky).

If Sonic Boom really goes Boom (in sales and reviews being bad or abysmal), what would mean to the Sonic franchise? Would Sega cann the series until the next gen, or they would try on other platforms? Would people talk about getting Nintendo or other to get the IP?

You know it deserves the GOTY.

User scores are garbage, even moreso than this game. It sucks because the core of the game is great but it is blatantly unfinished and rushed with no QA whatsoever so I cannot recommend anyone purchase this game.

That said, Sonic shouldn't be hard to master. I am willing to bet that I could design the best sonic game since Sonic 3 if I had an artist, musician, and some programmers. I would cut my head off with a chainsaw on twitch if given the shot and I failed because the concept is so simple to make work.

Like they always do: make new games.. One will be more classic and the other will be ruined by a gameplay gimmick

Before a new Sonic Boom game will come out we'll see a new game made by Sonic Team, so let's just wait for that first.

Sonic Boom? Flop

Sonics future? It should be pretty simple but sega made the same mistake Bandai made with the digimon franchis; they've allowed more diversity then their competitor (mario/pokemon) which is good, but they let it go too far and failed to stick to a core gameplay exprience.

Sonic should exist in 2 states: Classic 2D sonic for handhelds and Digital only releases whilst we get the Sonic Adventure series released at retail for console. Sonic Adventure is one of those games that at the time was appreciated but aged horribly. Instead of panicing an releasing a completely unrecognisable sonic game each year they should have focused on perfecting the gameplay; managing speed versus control, adventure vs platforming... Instead they've been all over the place.

I agree. SEGA panicked after Sonic 06, but it wasnt the developers fault. They just rushed the game out in an alpha/beta state. But that game had the right idea in terms of design in gameplay. It just wasnt polished yet.

I am an original Sonic fan, so i wont say that i especially like Sonic boom, but i understand it for what it is and i dont think its a bad game.

I know they're not going to.... but I just want them to go back to what made people happy.... Another Colors/Generations, another Advance/Rush, another Adventure (preferably with some... outside help for the other characters.). I don't care which. I'd be happy with any of them. I'm sure most of the fanbase would be happier with any of those over what we've been getting. I don't get it. I really don't. The Adventure games sold well and reviewed well (on original release anyway), the Advance/Rush games sold well and reviewed well, Colors/Generations sold well and reviewed well. I don't comprehend why they had to make the next game in the franchise completely different to what already worked.
