But the biggest I would be pushing is a 2 controller LBP3 "family" bundle for $400

Step 1: A free game conveys value, raising the probability that the console sells.
Step 2: People will be motivated to buy another game after they find out how "good" Knack is.

Step 3: The game bundled already sold enough to make profit... so a first party free copy won't hurt the company.

Higher sales does not necessarily mean more profit. Especially on black Friday when there are so many big deals, profit margins would be small. Also Knack is not a system seller but I agree with you that increases the value of the bundle.
