I think most collections suffer with this nonsense. Older game mechanics may feel dated after sometime (like older FPS with different control schemes, MGS old camera, etc). But that's normal, games are in constant evolution. Critics should review games according to its own time, not comparing its mechanics with modern ones.

Come on, take Medal of Honor. The game didn't even used two analogs correctly and the main control schemes was: walk with D-pad, hold R1 to aim with the D-pad and shoot with X. Despite that, it's a masterpiece and one of the best FPS ever. If I reviewed it today should I give it a 4 because of that? Of course not, the games should be reviewed according with their time.

Of course, critics nowadays don't make sense, at least in gaming. That's exactly why gaming critics don't have the same status as movie critics. Not because games aren't as important, but because their work reviewing it is inconstant and basically sucks big time.

I disagree entirely.

Games should be reviewed as they are. Not according to our memories of how cool it was back in the days.

Collections are only for nostalgics that already played the game. Everytime I bought a collection or played old games to complete a series, I've been disappointed by how old it felt. When I do the same for games that I already played, it feels like "This game never gets old", but it did, and if it was released today, nobody would even care.

Ok. How many countless articles have there been lately that try to completely demean the PS4 through of the most nitpicky ways. There are tons of articles that pop on N4G everyday about how awesome the XBone lineup, so don't even try that crap.

The fact it uses stellar to talk about the Xbone lineup already tells everything...

Both have 90% of the same games and in the exclusive front you have MCC remaster like a plus in Xbone... PS4 had it plus in August.

This holiday lineup is mediocre compared with others years... mainly in exclusive front.

I really don't get how a huge collection of 4 games all with a fresh coat of paint and new features, of which the lowest scoring game was an 87, only gets an 87. Especially with TLOU:R getting a 95 despite barely being any different than the original that released a year before it. I swear some of these reviewers are just way too biased against MS right now. This is the third great X1 game in a row that has been too harshly reviewed. You'd think critics would be grateful that X1 is actually delivering some great exclusives while PS4 has nothing to offer there.

The bias doesn't stop with reviews, its all over the media.

How many countless PS4 more power articles are there on the web. The PS4's superior power may undoubtedly be a fact, but here is another fact, Xbox One has undoubtedly the more stellar holiday lineup.  Yet there is only one article on that though...

Either way, its a 88 is a great score. Should be the highest scoring FPS of the year.

PS4 hardware power is useful for everyone as its going make diff in most of the games but XB1 lineup is subjective to those who like those games but not for everyone.

GAMING is not about spending hours to pass/waste our time just for fun,

its a Feeling/Experience about a VIRTUAL WORLD we can never be in real, and realizing some of our dreams (also creating new ones).

So, Feel Emotions, Experience Adventure/Action, Challenge Game, Solve puzzles and Have fun.

PlayStation is about all-round "New experiences" using new IP's to provide great diversity for everyone.

Xbox is always about Online and Shooting.

Nintendo is always about Fun games and milking IP's.

I agree, Only Sunset overdrive is notable exclusive(new game) in XB1 and other two MCC(just a remaster) and FH2(its available in 360) are not. PS4 also does not have except DriveClub but has 3rd party games advantage of superior verisions and has diversity with many games in Indies and two of the best games LBP3 and Last of us even though they available in PS3 but its great addtion to make the library diversify.

Thought that 90+ was certain (it can still do it) but still 85+ is excellent. Besides it's a collection, people know what they're getting. Unless the reviews point out technical issues I don't see how lower than expected reviews would change anything.

I feel like 2014 was just destined to be a shitty year for the 8th gen twins. Pretty much al the big 8th gen exclusives so far have been torn apart by reviewers and gamers alike, so devs have been forced to delay their projects into next year to try and ensure they're great quality when they come. It's a smart move, and will benefit gamers in the long run, but people still want to complain. It's becoming a lose-lose situation for devs, but it'll buff itself out, and next year's holiday lineup (and most of the year for that matter) will be phenomenal on 8th gen and even Wii-U for that matter.

0331 Happiness is a belt-fed weapon

Knew my 92 prediction was a tad high, could still climb back up, but 87-89 is nothing bad.

Reviewers this gen have been pretty harsh.

This is why I guessed 89, knew people were going to nitpick. xD

Glad you made this thread, was too tired to stay up lol

Sigh.. It is not a fact one has a better lines at all.... If you ignore Indies and games that came out outside of fall maybe.  Power is fact,  games are subjective.  Again with the console war crap. Ms had a big drought after Titan fall and had another one early 2015. Ps4 lines matches x1 easily.

People keep ignoring lbp a series with over a 90 met and 9 million in sales.

Lmao a 87/100 is low score now.

It isnt low.  But how can the sum of the parts be lower?

Especially when the sum of the parts cost 1/4?

It's the same with all collections. Even with 7th gen collection, when critics were being a tad softer, non managed to scrape far past 90.

Collections are treated as raw value propositions, which both ensures they get a high scores, but also makes it difficult to achieve far past 90. I'm sure plenty disagree with this manor of doing things, but it's always been this way. I thought the MCC may be able to fight past this harsher treatment, but it seems it's victim to the same net as everything else.

Well Orange Box is clearly the excpetion at 96  (except on PS3 where it was a mess)

What comes next?

I know God of War only got a 73 but that wasn't in the same league in terms of upgrades and value.

I cant recall any other "collection" scores from memory.

God of war got 91 though
