There are lots of people on the fence for either console, and games released in their entire history is what entices people to buy. Plus it's not as if the PS4 has some amazing selection coming in that time. I can think of The Order, which looks meh as fuck, and Bloodborne, which will probably be good but niche. And it has those games mostly as a result of what is turning out to be an extremely weak holiday 2014 in terms of exclusives. Consumers don't think in a vacuum. No one is going to think "forget all those awesome Xbone games that just released, what is coming specifically in the next 3 months!". |
bolded is the operative word.
Nothing the XB1 has released so far has sustained momentum longer than a month. Halo MCC might, but that only caters to FPS lovers. Indies don't really count for anything in the long run regardless of console, except maybe Minecraft but hey.

I think you're underestimating Bloodborne. The Souls fanbase is very dedicated and will pick up a PS4 to play it. It won't sell past 3m copies but it will move systems. |
That may be true, but if that is the reason they are getting a PS4 it wont matter what games come out for the X1.
Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.
I also need to add what exclusives for the PS4 since Last of Us Remastered (and hell that is a PS3 game) have driven sales? You had the Destiny Bundle and that isnt even an exclusive. Then what LBP for the remainder of the year.

I agree mostly. Momentum won't matter outside the US much, but inside the US it will matter. Like we have seen already, US buyers jump on the bandwagon and buy whatever is currently popular. IF the perception of the XB1 is changed by the promotions and bundles and the sales of the XB1 and PS4 are brought into parity during the holidays, it could have a longer term effect. Just having marketing deals on Witcher and Evolve continues the perception change. The PS4 has been outselling the XB1 mostly on the incredibly bad perception the XB1 had in the marketplace in the US(if not the world). But, americans love the underdog and they love redemption stories. They also love $$$$. And, M$ is giving them many $$$$ reasons to buy the XB1 regardless of the slowly fading perception issues.

Poor Tear Away.
Even with people discussing qtr 1 & qtr 2 2015... poor MLB The Show. Poor Ratchet and Clank.
It's as if now indies count and retail games don't.
iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.
Currently playing:
Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

If you squint your eyes just right, you'll find that nothing has counted. FYI: The last REAL game was the Sonic and Knuckles lock on cartridge for the Sega Genesis.

That didn't count either. Knuckles jumps like crap and Robotnik in the Death Egg final stage in Sonic 2 was basically unbeatable. Or at least I couldn't beat him.

Sure maybe in movies but these are consumer products we are talking about here. Last Gen PS3 never caught up with 360 in the US, the 360's consecutive NPD victories were headlined. Compared to PS2, everything else was the underdog, especially the Dreamcast which was especially cast aside.
Perception might matter to the gaming enthusiast, but main stream media forgot about that a long time ago.
And lest we forget, money alone isn't going to solve any kind of long term momentum issues. The effect of the price cut is a increase in sales by lowering cost and increasing awareness and popularity. If the XB1 can't hold on to that, then it will have the same effect as letting go of the Kinect and the Wii U's price cuts.

The 360 had a 6 million console lead + a price advantage when the PS3 came out. The PS4 has only a 1 million lead in the US, and until June, had a $100 price advantage and the obvious perception issues. Currently, the Perception issue is fading into the past and the price has now moved into the XB1's favor. If the public feels that the XB1 is now OK to buy, it will achieve a continued parity with the PS4. I don't assume like many others that the XB1 will now magically make up all the lost ground and take the lead in the US by Jan of 2015. I do believe that it can at least match the PS4 in US sales throughout 2015. If that happens, that would be a huge win for the XB1.
