Problem is that so much of Rare's staff is gone.  The designer from the three console entries is still around, so maybe they could still make an awesome game, but Rare still isn't really Rare anymore.

Maybe that's a good thing. Maybe the new Rare will go for more innovative gameplay formulas rather than bet on nostalgia.

...What. That is exactly what they tried to do with Nuts & Bults and it failed. If anything they need to stop trying to innovate.

Fail is a bit strong. I mean the game rated higher than most new games this generation

But it just wasn't what the market wanted.

More of what I meant, well said.

Then i think we will soon know if old Rare is still alive, but honestly, it would be surprising with so much layoffs and so much time without making anything as good.

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

I think you just repeat what you hear/read on the internet.

Nuts & Bolts is not a mainline Banjo game.

It's a vehicle building game and it excels at that, hence it averages in the 80's on metacritic. It's far from a failure but a different game that Rare fans didn't  expect.

Rare!!!!!

To be honest, if you're doing a Banjo game it should be about the nostalgia.  Look at Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts.  It was an awesome game, tons of creativity, and aside from a few quirks, it had great gameplay.  I think it would have been really well received as a new IP.  But, they tried to sell it to a fanbase who had been waiting over a generation for an opportunity to jump through colorful worlds, so they hated it.

I'm all for a new innovative IP from Rare... but if they decide to make a Banjo game, I want it to be a Banjo game (although I'd absolutely be down for a Nuts and Bolts sequel).

Totally agree with you.

So by creating a game Rare fans didn't expect, how were they betting on nostalgia? Sounds like taking a risk more than anything. Your views are very inconsistent.
