Forums - Sales - How smart are temporary price drops?

Seece said:

I'd like to see them raise the price come Jan, they'll get butchered. Only way they can compete with PS4 in US is to have a price advantage.

I think shock drastic weekend price cuts may be a good idea because the consumer doesn't get used to that price, but for 2 whole months? No way.

Edit - anyway I think MS are saying temporary right now because it adds urgency. Come Jan they might just keep it the same.

I actually agree with pretty much all of this.

And, to use this as a trampoline, I'll say I think some companies may use temp. price cuts in order to meet some sort of amount sold in a certain time frame which really isn't good business practice. Instead of using temporary price cuts companies should try to deliver good mass market games while still working under the original price and, when time comes that the price cut will still be profitable, then they should permanently drop it.

Around the Network

The perceived value of the Xbox One has decreased.

If they raise the price again to PS4 level, it will be sales suicide. There is no way this price cut will stay temporary for long.

just market as temporary. so people (good part of them?) will buy it earlier than they normally would.
But actually, dont up the price again.
