Agree with you that nothing official this year and they will need t bundle something good for the holidays untill the official pricut early next year.
But I think it would be more beneficial to do an official pricut this holliday. They might not make a profit this Q, but they have to take that loss and grow that installbase. The same thing the xbox is doing. It could be more beneficial to nintendo cuz they are releasing a bunch of exclusivs next year, so its best if they come with the installbase already inflated than to wait for those games to inflate it. Maybe then even some third partys will come back(might never happen, but a man can dream).
All Im saying is next year might be to late.

They would definitely be making a loss on that, I don't think Nintendo are as keen to have loss making hardware. Especially as they're struggling to get back in the black.

Well the hypothetical question in this instance is about the next price cut. When you're already selling your console for £199, then what else can you cut it to?

Not sure that is Nintendo though or Game? Either Nintendo or Microsoft (Can't remember which, or which console) dropped their price to be inline with that retailers had been offering for months on end previously. So we may just see a £199 cut from Nintendo, with retailers further cutting the price.
But at this point I think WiiU doesn't have a lot to gain from a price cut, it's never going to get significant or even what some would say respectable level of sales because it's the product that is the "problem" not the price. I say product, the WiiU is a fine gaming machine but in terms of audience it's lost and no amount of price cuts or Nintendo games will fix that, some amazing products are just not able to get success (Zune *sigh*) and the Gamecube and Original Xbox.
That's why Nintendo need to think about profit, catering to their core Nintendo fans, and delivering the best software they can in terms of evergreenability titles. Cut their losses at the end of the gen and start again.
If Nintendo go after install base they're just gonna get their fingers burnt IMO.
Probably next spring alongside a somewhat big game.
