God of war in a clean sweep for me, though evolution could be argued between the two as Kratos more devolved as the series went on, whereas Dante is just sort of, Dante. God of war has been far more consistent as far as quality is concerned though, even outside the main entries with the portable games, and ascension was decent as well with a surprisingly enjoyable multiplayer--and I hate multiplayer almost universally. With devil may cry, however, first one was good (though I'd say no more than a rental), the second outright garbage through and through, third was pretty good, fourth not quite trash but not good either, the the reboot or whatever was good but got bogged down by people who couldn't get past the hair color.

God of War is better in every way nearly, it reigns supreme in it's genre and no game really comes close to it tbh.

Which had the better games? God of War trilogy was amazing. They never slipped up on the trilogy. DMC 2 sucked, but both have bad fourth games. Regardless ill take Ascension over DMC4 any day though.

DmC never existed to me. So i will compare GoW to the original Dante's trilogy.

Which had the better characters? I love Kratos, he's a total ass. But Devil May Cry had better companions. For the boss, maybe a tie. 

Which had the better first game? God of War. I like the gameplay, the setting and the music more. 

Which evolved more in the later years? GoW. He evolved without changing. But after 3 main chapters, 2 psp awesome psp games and a prequel (plus a original online) it needs a little bit of rest.

Bonus - Witch generated the best clone? GoW... Dante's Inferno. 

And the GoW music are epic. 

Star Wars the Force Unleashed was also a GOW clone. Its just GOW w/ force powers.

I guess that's another point for GoW!  

Lmao just by looking at the comments it is easily to tell that this thread is a PS vs ND/MS thread. DMC is really good but GOW is the best game of its genre, sales and critical acclaim prove this, you know, things that actually have some validity behind them, not random forum dwellers on vgchartz trying to make DMC win a lost battle, just becuase of agendas. I know there are opinions in this thread but most are not being expressed as opinions but as facts.

Thats the reason I think Sony Santa Monica need to make a new hack n slash because they created the flag bearer franchise for not just Sony but the genre during the PS2 era. 

Sales and critical acclaim only prove popularity. It's still just opinions.
