No! They can use that money to games

The people who won't buy it at $300 probably won't buy it at $250. Honestly, the only way I could see this happening is if they reveal a GamePadless version, which I doubt.

Not at this stage. Advertising, good bundles and milk the hell out of Smash Bros and Amiibo first. Nintendo should have a decent holiday regardless, unless Smash really has lost some of it's star power. Save the price for early to mid next year (with a game) to keep the momentum going in the leaner months.

I think Nintendo needs to announce a new deal like they did with Mario Kart. Buy one of the select Wii U games get a digital download of one of their other games. DKCTF, NSBU (with SLU included), WWHD, or a $40 eshop credit. I think that something like this would go a long way to spur sales. That and announcing a lifetime extension of the Deluxe Digital promotion that was supposed to end this year.

ALL consoles benefit from price drops.

I have to agree with a few others here and suggest putting together a truly impressive bundle similar to their original Mario Kart package (extra controller, free game, accessory) for Smash Bros. as an alternative to price drop. The Big N really needs to collect profit from console sales this holiday. Dropping out of profitability when they seem to be on the brink of their first successful quarter just doesn't shake.

Perhaps a deluxe console with Smash Bros., a GCN controller and adapter, and a free downloadable 1st party game of choice for $299-$329 would be just what they need. Even a MK8/Smash bundle for $299 would be fantastic! Smash/Kart + a Pro controller would kill at that price point. They could always add in a voucher for a free amiibo to any decent multi-game bundle and draw some customers.

At this point, the ship has sailed on gobbling up casuals at a low price - the game pad costs too much and most casuals don't even know the Wii U is a new system. Nintendo needs to focus on converting all those semi-core gamers who keep taking backward glances at Mario Kart and Smash into sales.

People aren't on the fence about the U because it costs $300. They just need to have their reasons for buying the thing staring them in the face when they step up to the counter. Let's be honest: NSMBU is not the game that's going to bring them over. They need to see Smash-Kart with a little Bayo on the side and they're goners.
