Ok just stop.  Being the most powerful console is never a DETRIMENT.  It is always a good thing.  However it is usually a corelation that they lose.

That's a pretty terrible argument people believe. It's like everyone went out like "wow, the games loo much worse in this console, it's amazing!!". Price is what matters and it's usually related to power. If X1 was 300 bucks and it never had the bad publicity it would probably be winning right now.

I'm sorry, what's your point?  The OP said that the strongest usually loses.  The strongest doesn't usually lose, the most expensive one does.

However, the PS3 did narrowly beat the 360 while costing 50% more at launch.  Honestly if the PS4 was $400, and the X1 was $300 (Like it should be) then yeah things would be different, but I don't think the PS4 would be losing.  It would simply be a closer race.

It's kinda too late for a price drop to make a massive difference now though.  It is common knowledge that the PS4 is noticably more powerful and better supported, so why not just spend the extra $100 and get the better system.  That $100 buys people peace of mind at this point.

PS4 is better, more powerful, less expensive, more user-friendly, more gamer oriented, has better games of wider variety of genres, better performing games, does not treat its customers as criminals, respects even the smallest markets, doesn't nickel and dime its users at every corner....

When a sensible person does even a 3-minute research, it is the best choice by a wide margin.

A harsh yet so bang on explanation.

bravo.

A harsh reality many may never accept.

1. Goodwill.
2. Respecting gamers by standing against DRM.
3. Powerful system at a cheaper price.
4. Playstation first party track record.
5. 2008-2013 support for games rather than chasing casuals / non-gamers.

The last impression left by Sony/MS closed the deal for a lot of people.

I think the biggest factors were the great price, and that the competitor's consoles looked terrible,

Can't speak for anyone else, but this is why I made the jump instead of going with a WiiU and/or XBone.

#1.) Sony has shown over the course of almost 2 decades that they support their consoles, new or old. They do not release a new console and just leave the old one to die. This has built a ton of confidence with me for Sony and their home consoles. Whether this is due to 1st party efforts or strong 3rd party relations matter not to me. All I know is that PS4 has been here for a year and my PS3 is still seeing new exclusive releases, thus causing it to still be used almost daily in my home. It is still relevant.

#2.) Treat me with respect. Say what you want and try to claim whatever, but Sony stood against DRM. People want to be able to sell their games. People want a sense of ownership. Instead of going where some 3rd parties and MS wanted to take the industry Sony chose to stand on the side of consumers, regardless of what you may or may not think was the reason. Only thing that matters is what their choice ultimately was.

#3.) Most diverse lineup of games. No other home consoles has the range of title like Playstation. You have full JPN support, full western support, etc... There is basically no developer who refuses to create games for Playstation. This allows me the confidence to know that if something looks interesting, there is a very high probability of it coming my way.

#4.) Best bang for my buck. Lowest price, highest power, most games. What more do you want?

Any answer that isn't this is wrong.

Crappy handling of their main competitor Microsoft before Launch killed much of their interest, bad planning from Nintendo left them with no games for weeks after launch, killing the interest in the console both by consumers and publishers, and a resulting huge Hypetrain. And then the specwars at every single game pretty much inverts the "strongest Console, worst performer" rule of consoles.

Easy, really. Correlation =/= causation.

Consumers don't shy away from power. Powerful consoles struggled in the past for totally different reasons.

No troll is too much for me to handle. I rehabilitate trolls, I train people. I am the Troll Whisperer.

There is also a measure of spite. PS4 is currently winning and that is a fact. The internet has revealed that the loudest members of the losing parting are salty spiteful hateful individuals and this does nothing but push consumers away from those platforms.

besides more power for the same price, M$ handed that to them at E3, a stigma they haven't quite shaken off yet.

besides power and the shitty stigma, MS is putting out a good product with the XBO, it will just take time for people to forget when they see something they must have, like a new Gears or Halo.

sony is ass dragging on updates and features compaired to xbo. they are stil lriding everyone wants a ps4 wave i think. It will be interesting this time next year when the big games really come out.
