Forums - Nintendo - What are your (main) reasons why you bought the Wii U?

I bought my Wii U, because i'm a Nintendo fan, their games always gave me a great time, it has free online and backwards compatibility so i can still play Wii games on it.

And another reason that i can think, is the promise of play Xenoblade X, The Last Story II (if that ever happens) and i'm not gonna lie, Bayonetta was a huge factor in getting one so early this generation.

I game more on my Wii U than on my PS3, i'm very happy with my purchase.

To play Nintendo games; most of which have been stellar thus far on the console.

After a mixed reaction to its reveal and release, I started becoming mildly interested in the console by early 2013. When I saw the Xbox One reveal I assumed it was going to be a pretty bad console and instantly knew my choice this generation was going to be the PS4 - though the Wii U was still a possibility.

Then, what happened was that when the PS4 was actually revealed, I never felt that mind-blowing "next-gen" feel from it. Rather, it just felt like more of the same to me, it was like the PS3 but with better graphics and even then the graphics weren't that incredible. That's when I started shifting thought to the Wii U.

All very nice points, and I too felt like the PS4/Xbone are more of the same. Sort of like simply upgrading an iphone to its latest model. I also felt people swarmed to the PS4 because of just that, it is more of the same, with no surprises.

To me the Wii U is a gaming device at heart, where I can have fun playing it with a room full of people.

It's simple. I walked into Gamestop. I saw Mario Kart 8. I played if for like 30 seconds and I put the controller down...my mouth and mind hit the ground. I was smittened beyond belief. I bought the system within a few days.I have not regretted my purchase for a moment.

I wanted to know why you guys bought your Wii U. (Or why you'd consider buying one)

I don't have a Wii U yet, but I do have a few reasons to buy one. I'd like to play Smash, Mario Kart 8 and the new Zelda game. I haven't gotten myself to purchase a Wii U for now though!

1.) It has lots of games that DON'T include shooting things with guns and dark, mature themes. I really got tired of the overuse of guns and murder in games over the last decade or so.

2.) It's a traditional console.

3.) Free online gameplay.

4.) It's BC.

5.) It's totally fresh. While the other two consoles are just beefy versions of the PS3 and 360, the Wii-U is a completely different experience from that of the Wii.

6.) Nintendo IP. Can't play Nintendo IP without a Nintendo console.

7.) It's family friendly which means you don't have to exclude your mother when she comes to visit or your 5 year old cousin.

Excellent reasons!!

Exclusives.

- Backwards compatibility, I had skipped the Wii entirely and wanted to play some of the titles I missed that interested me
- Wind Waker HD
- Wonderful 101
- Bayonetta 2
- Lack of an official achievements / trophies system, it's refreshing playing games and enjoying them for the game, not having some stupid checklist running in the back of my mind that I feel I need to complete to finish the game

@prayformojo - Excellent post. #3 is the only point I can do with or without as I'm pretty much primarily a solo player unless some friends are over for local multi.
