Forums - General Discussion - What is your stance on hardcore pornography?

... I seriously dont care . Until it doesnt affects society in a major way it can exist as much as it wants . Also , at least this is another way women can make big bucks :P

It does... it lowers sexual crimes.  Of course so do things like strip clubs and prostitution. (When you take out the confounding variables).

Of course people let morality get in the way of statistical facts in such matters.  In such cases even if said people who do porn, stripping and prostitution were in some damaged.  The amount of other people they would save from similar danger many other women. (and men though people ignore men when it comes to such things.)

In such a way these industries work as modern day "Sin-eaters".

Well.  Minus the whole after death thing.

Your theories are the worst kind of popular tripe, your methods are sloppy, and your conclusions are highly questionable! You are a poor scientist. Especially if you think the moon landing was faked.

OooSnap I'm glad your on this site.

If you believe, Athiest or not, that the people making porn don't have serious physiological issues, well the I put you the same boat as people who think the moon landing was faked. Actually worse.

Yeah man, denying that an obvious event happened against all evidence is totally equivalent to not believing an unfounded generalization. Preach on, brotha'.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

Actually studies show the opposite. Studies show consumption of pornography is correlated with higher sexual assault rates, aggressive behavior, desensitization to rape and more likely to accept the rape myth. One study found that 86% of rapists regularly used pornography, with 57% admitting actual imitation of pornography scenes in commission of sex crimes.

Source:

Allen, M., Emmers, T., Gebhardt, L., & Giery, M.A. (1995). Exposure to pornography and acceptance of rape myths. Journal of Communication, 45 (1), 5-26; Saunders, R.M., & Naus, P.J. (1993). The impact of social content and audience factors on responses to sexually explicit videos. Journal of Sex Education and Therapy, 19 (2), 117-131.

Also researchers Zillmann and Bryant found that the male subjects who had been exposed to the massive amounts of pornography considered rape a less serious crime than they had before they were exposed to it; they thought that prison sentences for rape should be shorter; and they perceived sexual aggression and abuse as causing less suffering for the victims, even in the case of an adult male having sexual intercourse with a 12-year-old girl. The researchers concluded that "heavy exposure to common nonviolent pornography trivialized rape as a criminal offense."

If you are still not convinced, how about some of the more socially liberal European countries blaming pornography (which is available on regular TV)for a recent string of teen gang rapes. Click here http://www.guardian.co.uk/international/story/0,3604,721884,00.html

Yeah, bad studies. If you look at them you'll notice they ignore the confounding variables.

When you do a real study. AKA study what happens before and after porn reaches an area you'll see assaults go down. The most user acessiable of a real non biased approach on the matter can be found in the book "Freakanomics".

Liberal states also blame videogames for increased violence by the way.

"As for the effect it has on others, well, I don't think there's any scientific study that's definitely proved a correlation between pornography watching and misogyny, objectivization, or desensitization"

Scroll up. I posted a few.

"And finally, not everyone is as religious as you appear to be. It's okay if you abstain from watching it on grounds of spirituality, but should you really force those views on others?"

I said nothing about religion or being religious. And how am I forcing views on others? It's not like you were being held at gunpoint to read the original post and forced to believe what I believe.

Chirizum, I saw what ya did there. In my book, you are so cool.

Fine a significant number of them suffered abuse as children. Female side.

I don't care what people want to do as long as no one gets hurt and no children are used.

You posted a few... which another poster immediately called out as bad studies.

As to your second point, I present for evidence:

"As corny as it sounds I think pornography destroys the soul. It's focused on the carnal with its warped depiction of sexuality which hurts people spiritually. There is something not quite right with separating sex from love. We are not just mere animals, we are spiritual beings. When we use others as mere tools for our selfish pleasure as shown in pornography there is something immoral and backwards about it."

And: That cross in your avatar.

Nope. No religious bent here, folks.
