"narbacular drop". It was a title developed by a student group, which then was discovered by Valve, and hired to make Portal.

Demon's Souls > King's Field
SaGa series > Final Fantasy 2
God Hand > Devil May Cry
Dragon's Crown > Odin's Sphere
Heavy Rain > Indigo Prophecy
Star Ocean > Tales of Phantasia

It'd be Dragon's Crown > Odin's Sphere > Princess Crown. Dragon's Crown is a spiritual successor of D&D Shadow Over Mystara, but it's not developed by the same group of people which is what the OP is asking. Otherwise I would have said Brigandine > Dark Wizard.

George Kamitami was one of the lead designers of D&D and founded Vanillaware after he left Capcom.

Isn't Knack the spiritual successor of Pacman? Think about it. Who else neded cubes to grow stronger?
If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

OP says same dev team different publisher. Pretty sure ICO and SoTC were both published by Sony.

Yeah, a lot of the design of Dragon's Crawn in terms of the characters and the game itself came from the work he did on D&D. A few of his colleagues from his Capcom days also worked on Dragon's Crown with him.
