With Pokken Tournament, The Pokemon Company and Bandai Namco hope to appeal to older fans. Producer Katsuhiro Harada, in an interview with 4Gamer, said that the team is “aiming for something over 18 years of age to the early 30s” when it comes to age demographics.

Harada said:

“Naturally, it’s being developed into something that elementary school children can also enjoy, but if we’re talking about age demographics, we’re aiming for something over 18 years of age to the early 30s.”

“When it comes to Pokémon, everyone says they love it up until the fourth grade, and what’s funny is that there are kids who graduate from it after that. Well… it’s not that they ‘graduate,’ since they’re still fans, but they just don’t show [their enthusiasm], and kind of play it more behind-the-scenes.”

“That applies to some of the kids out there. However, for some reason, once they get into their 20s, there are more and more people who enthusiastically share their love for Pokémon.”

“This title is being made as an ‘adult’s Pokémon’ for that generation of people who grew up with Pokémon. Those in their 20s and 30s today have spent a lot of time during their school days with Pokémon, and have some strong memories looking back at the games and anime.”

“And for those people, Pokkén will finally allow them to experience what it’s like to freely move around their favorite Pokémon, and I expect it to be a very impressive title. Please look forward to it.”

Wow, this article tells the truth seriously spot on
*Claps

Its funny but i hate how some people think pokemon is a kiddie franchise, but in reality the competitive scene is probably one of the most hardcore formats in gaming. Seriously for anybody that plays pokemon, you would need to hit the books in order to play (meaning studying the game and it can take months with just knowlegde.

I hope this game is unique and becomes big, it be funny if it were one of the top 5 biggest fighters but it wont happen with wiiu being its homeconsole :-/

A bit cynical...

"freely move around"

So more like the Naruto games than a traditional fighter?

He couldn't have been more right about the teenage demo either hiding their love for the games or thinking they're too cool to play them and then it's like when people hit college they openly love the franchise again. It's sure true for a lot of friends of mine, and even myself.

I approve this.

...No? He just mean's being able to move in ways that aren't turn based. It's very obviously still a 2D (3D) fighter like Tekken.

My mum thinks it's kiddie. Basically any casual that looks at something colourful means auto for kids.

But my friends who are 15/16 play it openly though. I think this MIGHT release for Wii U in 2015 too, depending on how early the Arcade version will happen. If not, then middle 2016 for U release would be the second safest bet.

:/ I still don't get how Namco can't just have their fighting games release both on Arcades and Consoles and then update balance with patches.

From the single video released so far, I wouldn't call it obvious.

Grown men will be beaten with sticks during lunchbreak when they say: "F Call of Duty, I'm playing Pokken Tournament!"
