Except the DS was PSP's direct competitor, so a comparison seems relevant.

Mind you, I'm not saying the PSP's lifetime sales were poor overall. Just that this was one aspect/context in which it could be said they were, in addition to the ones you listed.

Yeah, its a comparison that can be made but it isn't that inciteful into the systems respective success which I guess is what I'm getting at. With software comparisons though is quite different, that was definitely a failure on sony behalf and no system with 80m hardware units out there should only have total software sales of around 250m... Thats quite poor or at least below industry standards.

I had no idea it was that low.

Thaat's only about 3 games per system, yikes.

Piracy?

That what people say. I can't really recall the software situation at the time but I think support ended quite early from most third partys and the japanese games rarely came to the west.

Nope the Vita is defintely the last one! Teehee

Only if they still have flash memory left over which they want to sell for more money than standard flash memory.

No, Sony simply cannot afford it at this stage and probably dont see a lot of money in one anymore.

BUT I feel Sony may make the Xperia phones more gaming friendly.... although such a plan didnt work out for that old gaming device/phone (whose name I forget).

Apparently PSP piracy was big in Europe, hence why some of the PSP games came with physical special editions to encourage sales.

Thing is I honestly feel that while piracy reduces software sales, it actually greatly increases hardware sales. PS1, PS2, DS, PSP, and even the Wii and GBA to some extent could play pirated games very easily. I have known plenty of people with a multitude of chipped consoles I listed.

They shouldn't. I love my Vita, but the way they jumped ship was distasteful and disgusting, and I hope they stay out of the business.

It sucks but I can't blame them. They're bleeding money. Sega flat out dropped the DC due to the same issue. Companies can't just keep losing money like that without consequences.

I can blame them. The reason the Vita died was because Sony jumped ship at the earliest sign. Not to mention, their PR after was just disasterous.

Sony is losing money, yes, but bothering to make a quality game a few times a year shouldn't put them in the red. Plenty of devs make a decent profit through the Vita, especially in Japan. No one is asking for a masterpiece, just some decent first-party games every quarter

Xbox One - PS4 - Wii U - PC

Hopefully. They know how to make great ones... just not how to sell them like Nintendo. Perhaps in a few years down the line if both companies teamed up to bring Vitaesque visuals along with the likes of 3d mario or the pokemon franchise, Would sell buckets.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

Hell no. Why would they? Why shouldy they? Traditional handheld gaming devices are a thing of the past. Let it rest already.

Hunting Season is done...

Sony is over with handhelds, unfortunately.

Vita has been a cursed platform, ever since the Rainie Yang incident.
I love the Vita, and it deserved more support.

But it's over.

yep people used it to play nintendo games ;)

To answer the OP, no. Sony has abandoned the Vita and I cant see them having another handheld. Which is a massive bonus for Nintendo because it means all handheld games will be released on their next gen portable.
