As much as I dislike the "new" 3DS,  I don't think that will will happen. Its just an upgrade (what the 3ds should have been if you ask me) the same with the DSi, and that offered some upgrades in a couple of games and a few exclusive software (none of them worthwhile)

So, for me the New 3ds is more for people who didn't buy a 3ds yet or for those that are still with the first version (like myself). Even tough I hate the idea of Xenoblade to be exclusive -.-

While this has some merit, the paradox is : the more they support the N3DS, the more they alienate people who only recently bought a standard 3DS, and the less they support the N3DS, the more they disappoint people who invest $$ into one of those. It's really a catch 22, and an obvious mistake.

Better to build up a stellar launch lineup and launch a true successor in holiday 2015 timeframe, as the N3DS will diminish sales of a true 3DS replacement. It's just senseless.

It would be exactly like if Sony had released an enhanced version of the PS3 in 2012 called the 'New PS3', still using the Cell, but with a better GPU and a few other bells and whistles, with plans for a few exclusive games but mostly just the same library. That would have really hurt the PS4, and simultaneously pissed off tons of PS3 owners who only bought theirs recently.

Yes, the paradox is there, but thats just up to Nintendo in how to market the new 3ds. If people buy it because of the new exclusive games, then they WILL be dissappointed. However I still think this new revision is just a hardware upgrade for those who aren't satisfied with the regular 3ds perfomance (one stick, lower battery, non functional 3D effect, and so on). Also as a sidenote consumers are always pissed. When Ninty announced the 3ds XL, a lot of people were angry because they just bought a regular 3ds, even tough it was hardly a surprise coming from them. 

I still think this will not kill off the handheld division, in fact they can just cash a small fortune with this.

I was on the fence about getting a 3DS this Christmas, but this has pushed it back a few months. And made me more certain

It does give Sony a few months to announce some Vita games, but most likely this will be my first Nintendo handheld since the GBA

Looking forward to Fire Emblem, Bravely Default and the soon to come out Xenoblade Chronicles. Good to see the new hardware getting good reviews

This kind of business practice is typical (and expected) in the mobile space as the transition takes place every couple years or so...

With Nintendo, however, kind of disappointments me.
I suppose they may be realizing the demand in mobile gaming and is following suit with the usual turnaround time in technological upgrades however little they may be.
