Spurge, come fix my Wal-Mart. We haven't even put out Hyrule Warriors yet.

I had a terrible experience trying to get Hyrule Warriors at my local Wal Mart.  I went to the Wii U case at 6pm on release day, and of course it wasn't on the shelf yet...  I ask one of the employees back in electronics why it's not out, he doesn't even know it's supposed to come out today.   I then point at the signing on the display case that says "available 9/26".  After three clueless associates try to figure out where the copies are, they ask a manager to help them.  They happen to find a box on top of a filing cabinet in the back room with four copies of Hyrule Warriors in it.  I was lucky/ determined/ patient enough to buy one of them.

If any of the employees manage to get around to putting the other three copies in the display case, they might have a crack at selling them to customers.

I was this close to just walking out and buying it at GameStop.  Say what you will about that place, but there is zero chance that A) they wouldn't have it out and able to be sold, and B) They would have more than four copies in their first shipment.

I think it was a combination of WalMart being Walmart... employees have no idea what's going on, inventory is difficult to keep track of, awareness of new products, (even within people's assigned departments) is lackluster at best.  I don't know how they manage to sell anything, honestly.  If I was a Nintendo rep and Walmart was one of my stops, it would be no surprise to me why sales are slow.  Customers can't find what they're looking for.

What do you do at Walmart, you work in electronics?  I used to work in electronics at Target '05-'08 during the Nintendo boom.  It was similar there... no one knew anything about new releases, it was sad.

Maybe I'll make a whole thread about it at some point because this going a little off-topic, but in general, clueless retailers are without question working against the sales of video games and consoles.  It's rare to see an electronics department that is well-tended to.  My local Meijer has, I kid you not, a Nintendo GameCube display case sign over the Wii/ Wii U games.  It never got changed to Wii, and still hasn't been changed to Wii U.  I'll take a picture of it next time I'm in there.  I laugh every time I see it.

The games cabinet at the store I work for is a mess. Lots of stuff in the wrong spaces. They have promotions for Hyrule Warriors and Smash Bros 3DS but neither game out on the shelf. None of the display consoles are set up to play demos. That's why I went to Game Stop for DKCTF and Mario Kart 8 release and Amazon for Smash Bros 3DS.

It's the same here with MediaMarkt / Saturn. They have nearly every console working at a demo station, but all you can play on X1/360/Ps4/Ps3/Vita is Fifa. At least they are running Mario on 3DS and WiiU...

My Walmart still has faded copies of WiiMusic and WarioLand Shake it covering the bottom rows of their cabinet. Walmart is obviously not concerned with improving the image of the brands they sell and from the looks of my store neither are the employees. Come on...you can't get a new planogram ready for a new console?
