I would like to see why SnesBoy who made this thread (gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=196948 ) in which he personally insulted, me, did not get permabanned or at least banned for a very long time instead of only 12 days. I do not appreciate these type of comments made on me as thay hurt my reputation on this site, which is still in it's infancy.

Thank You;
Mr.Playstation

SnesBoy was first moderated for the post in your thread, by Leadified, for 5 days. Then he made the thread you referenced, for which I banned him for 10 days or double the length. I discussed this with other mods, and we agreed it needed moderating so 10 days seemed fair.

SnesBoy has an extensive mod history, but he's a user who been here for a long time. We can't just "skip" straight to a permaban for such an infraction because that would fly in the face of the moderation system which we use. I understand that you're offended, but we aren't going to just jump straight to a permaban everytime someone is offended. The user will be moderated (quite severly in this case, skipping moderation steps), and that should be that. We have people insult others all the time, unfortunately. But we can't just permaban everyone who does that; else we'd have noone left on the site.

One piece of advice I will give you is that you should just stay away from the guy. Comments like this and also your comments on his wall will only make things worse and will likely cause more grief. If you want things to improve, then it would be a good plan to simply ignore it. Certainly do not antagonize him else he'll just come back.

Thanks Conegamer. Sorry about that, I just acted out of gut instinct and anger. You have to understand though that I had never even seen this guy on VgChartz before the post, so what he said hit me way below the belt.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

I have a few questions about a few things I was curious about.

First, can members block each other?

How well does the mod team in general handle sarcasm directed at them or people in general? Sometimes, people can annoyed by it. I'm just asking because I don't want to be reported too much then get banned because of my sense of humor. For example, if I called one of the mods a mod-ling or was poking fun at one.

You can make your wall private so only people on your friends list can see it if that's what you mean. I'm sure someone made a script that can make all posts by certain users not show up as well. Can't remember where that was though.

As for sarcasm, I think that's a difficult one for the mods. I'd say don't overdo it and if possible make it fairly obvious what is and isn't sarcasm and you should be alright. As for mods, I think that really depends on how well you know them and get on with them. If there is a mod that you have a problem with and they know it then it would be a bad idea. But if there was a mod who you knew well enough and knew they were happy to joke around a little then it should be fine.

Thanks for the tips on sarcasm. Sometimes, I can go overboard with it. I meant blocking as in being able to block another user and you/him can't see eachother's posts. From you response, I take it that people can't.

Nope, no way to do that.

is there any way to see the hiarchy of the mods?

I'm talking about something built into the forums where it's easy for any user to use. i'm asking because I believe the forums would be better off with a block feature and have less overall banning/moderation after it's been out.

Nope, no blocking but you can make your profile page Private so only friends can see.

That would depend on the mod. I would advise getting to know the userbase more and building your own reputation here before poking fun at people though. You can say anything to me and I will not be offended, but if you say it to other mods then you could probably expect a moderation.

Not really. We have our co-head Moderators which you can see in the OP of this thread, all other mods are pretty much on the same level.

Well here is a list of all of them. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/members.php?name=&gender=&keyword=&country=&type=Moderator&order=Last+logged+in

Smeags is the head mod. I think TruckOSaurus is 2nd. Then there's the rest. Although Axumblade used to be head mod for a while, as was Kantor.

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure that someone has suggested it at some point but I'll do it anyway. I would like to suggest that a "block user" feature be added to the forums. As in that neither the person who was blocked or the person who did the blocking could see eachother's threads/posts. On someone else's thread, they just wouldn't see eachother's posts. Here's some points on why it would greatly improve the forum.

It would allow us to self moderate our own threads to prevent them from being locked because of a few posters. The OP could temporarily block someone that they felt was going overboard or they could just keep that person blocked if they wanted. The blocked user would just move onto a different thread and perhaps contribute to it. If someone was going around and annoying whatever fan base, they could just block him instead of him getting reported to no end and being banned constantly. Also, it would help with people that feel like their reporting isn't doing much. If someone kept bothering them, they could just block 'em.

I noticed that many decent threads always end up locked or abandoned because mods start threatening posters with bans and people just stop posting on that thread to be safe. That hurts discussion. If users could resolve things within their own thread without involving the mods, it would be great. The discussion continues and no one gets banned.

Blocking is a double edged sword. If you block too many people, you won't see that many threads or people posting. If you get blocked by a lot of people, you won't see many threads or posters.  So most people wouldn't use it a lot but on here they might at first. haha

It would probably help the mods in their duties with light offenses and many other things. I'm not criticizing the mods. I'm just giving a suggestion to improve the forums.
