It's not as if it was only recently repurposed to mean homosexual, it has been that way for decades now. It also isn't just to some people, it's the dominant meaning of the word in most English speaking countries. |
Regardless of the time it's been repurposed, banning the word altogether based on it's slang meaning is just silly. Especially since the word's original meaning was positive. I can understand if the word is used in malicious way but if a person is not referring to homosexuals at all then it shouldn't be an issue. The word has multiple meanings. Context and intent. People should really grow past how it was used in a illiterate way. How is calling a homosexual "happy" offensive?
People use the word feces and it's many variants to describe objects and people. It's rarely ever used in a positive way but it's not banned at all. Of course, you can't call someone a feceshead on here and you'll get in trouble but in general, you can call someone any variant of it and there's not big deal over it. That person probably won't like it but socially, it's an appropriate way to say someone or something is a piece of feces=inferior/bad. It's big piles of silliness.
