Im saying every aspect of a users history should be taken into account, not just other users actions towards them.
In this case, Im saying that if I was present in mod chat I would have argued for neither of them to be banned, but for a warning in the thread and/or PMs to both users to chill out and move on.

This was discussed, but given both users recent history i dont see why such leniency was required. Also imo the way the rules were broken it seemed to be very deliberate, with both parties knowing full well what they were doing.
I mean i am usually a moderator that goes to thread warnings as oppose to moderations - hell I've even been sent PM's from users asking why a moderation was not issued. In this partiucalar case though i felt a 1 day ban was a fitting punishment for both, despite their history.

I know, I read it and thought you guys did a good enough job that I never complained
Im not arguing against the bans, Im just saying how *I* think we should handle certain decisions. I like to think this thread is for us to talk to the community, just as much as it is for the community to talk to us.

Yeah i definitely feel as mods we should actively participate in this thread and respond to the community. Personally im more than willing to discuss at length how i came about the decisions i made as moderator. As long as the discussion is done following the thread rules :)
One good thing that i think came out of this moderation though was the fact that the progressive system was not strictly adhered to. I think given how clearly it is stated in the new rules, as a moderator, i feel more free now to issue an appropriate ban to the infringement while not completely disregarding the users history.

That is a good thing! IMO one of the main problems with the mod rules was/is the progressive system. |
Just curious, what is the mods position on the "I was hacked" defense?

You admitting to being hacked, gergroy?
It's impossible to prove really; so I'd say the only thing we can do is ignore it and continue on as before. Without evidence, what can we do?
This is just a warning to people like Kapi. You can't go posting mongoose porn and then claim you were hacked. Ain't gonna fly with me.

cant you guys check the IP address that the account accessed from?

But surely if your account was "hacked" it would be 99.9% from a family member or someone using the account after you forgot to log out. So you'd have the same IP.
