I don't. I rent games I am interested in, I buy games I really need.
Basing any kind of real opinion on an arbitrary scoring system like Metacritic is naive.
If I'm interested in a game, I read the reviews to learn more about it. That is to say, the part with words.

I generally don't like Metracritic, but I sometimes use it for a reference.
I have a fairly standard process for approaching new games.
1) If it looks good, and there's a demo->try it and buy if it's good.
2) Only pay attention to it if it gets 70+ on metacritic.
It's not a perfect way of dealing with things. But there are a lotta games nowadays, especially on PC. Need a quick process!
When i do use Metacritic i do so with huge grain of salt. Generally if the game is at least a 60/100 and already had interest before the scores, i'll probably play it. I.E. Bound by Flame. 53/100 on Metacritic, but I enjoyed it and would give it a 70/100 .

never in my life i depend on metacritic as they are more on general consensus and not taking into account the genre the gamers love. it is their opinion. I've just used it as reference to what in general they are trying to say in the review and if it really merits the score.

i've only really taking scores seriously when reconsidering my own presumptions.
i don't care at all what lbp3 scores,. this is a game i know i'll love. ...but when i dismissed demon's souls and it was getting rave user reviews and a high metacritic i decided to give it a chance. glad i did.
I go there to see the general consensus on games but I have the final say
PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850
I do look at what critics say but however try to read around what most say to try and get a better understanding of why.
One thing to always keep in mind when looking at polls or ranking is that the sample that is being observed may not have a wide aray of judges. Therefore you get almost the same scoring from each person because they share the same interests in games.
How many times have polls been wrong in the past. Truman Vs Dewey http://www.eagleton.rutgers.edu/research/americanhistory/ap_trumandewey.php
I don't depend on it.
But here is something I'd like:
A website where I can make an account and register all the sites that I want to have considered in my personal aggregated score, that way I don't have to see a score be affected by websites that I don't regard at all.
I want that site to have a simple system implemented, where I can specify situations in which certain websites will be weighted differently e.g. "Game X is PS4 exclusive => Score from publication/website that exclusively reviews PS titles is only worth half (score is halfed and review is counted as half a review)", or "Game Y is genre Z => review by certain publication/website or even reviewer is worth twice (score is doubled and review is counted as 2)".
I know that I can do this in my head as well, but it's tedious, so I'd use a site like that.
