After checking the original quote it seems that the overhead they are talking about is not related to the OS but the overhead in the CPU. "Now it seems that additional overhead was found once Microsoft got its hand on production silicon, with the CPU component able to run at 1.75GHz, compared to the initial 1.6GHz target. " http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-xbox-one-cpu-speed-increased-in-production-hardware I thought that sentence meant that once extra overhead was found, they needed to overclock the CPU. Sorry about that. Though the OS had a lot of performance problems at the launch, weren't they? That is after increasing the clock speed. It seems obvious that if it wasn't or the increase it would be worse. Though this is speculation on my part. Also I checked a few sources and they say the PS4 Cpu performs better despite the clockrate difference, which would only be explained by the OS performance. |
I would imagine your speculation to be correct. I mean I don't see any other reason for the PS4 CPU to perform better without it overclocked. And the One is supposedly running 3 OSs concurrently, so I'm sure that has to have some kind of impact.

I always thought it was piracy that killed Sega.
It is a good idea.
I'm the only PS fanboy needed here.
Gave up my fanboyism a long time ago. Now I have a higher cause and that is to maintain balance.

Nah, not really. It was Sega's poor choices that killed their HW division. Releasing a bunch of add-ons to extend the life of the Genesis, none that really sold well, was a poor decision. Then, they tried to surprise launch the Saturn to beat Sony to market, which pissed off stores and 3rd party developers who weren't prepared. The Dreamcast could have been a turn around point, but it was really too late by then, as some of the people who were pissed off the previous gen were still angry at Sega and continued to not fully support them.
I was a fanboy of playstation once. The community grew toxic and forced me out. Now I'm a gaming enthusiast and selective retro game collector
I had a good laugh over the whole AC Unity "controversy"... this is what the console fanboy wars have resorted to, arguing over over a difference in the number of pixels in screen resolution that is so miniscule it's almost undetectable from the naked eye unless you're standing 2 feet in front of your screen.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.
